Question about Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera partially inoperable

When I turn the camera on, the lens protrudes only sligahtly partially; I can hear it trying to come out further, but nothing happens; The orange light, indicating that camera is on, does not illuminate. But when I move the "on" lever to review phots on screen, the green light illuminates and images do appear on screen.

I recharged the batteries the other day and the camera worked fine immediately after that.

The camera has been operating perfectly until now.

Please advise how to correct this.

Thank you.

Hi,

I suspect the problem is with the batteries. I advise buying new ones.

When trying to turn the camera on, the lens will not extend fully. it extends partially, and then the camera turns itself off, leaving the lens in the partially extended position. you have to try and turn...

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

When I turn the camera on in either record or review mode I get a system error: zoom message after a few seconds and the camera is inoperable. Then when I turn the camera off the lens does not retract.

The lens on my casio exilim ex-z20 is stuck.

Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Sony cyber shot with Carl Zeiss lens, 8.1 megapixels, model # DSC-H7 ...... when camera is turned on, the lens has stopped coming out rendereing the camera inoperable?? You can hear the lens trying to...

This is a common issue if the lens cap is on, I will assume it is not so something is binding the lens. It is probably sand or a misaligned lens. Try grabbing the lens barrel as it extends, you will need to remove the outer barrel to do this. If does not even begin to extend taking it in for repairs will probably be your only choice.

Inoperable

The Zoom mechanizim is faulty- this is a shop repair job.
The other possible cause is failing or incorrect battery type.
Either will not deliver enough power to operate the lens.
So check battery condition/type.
IF OK Check Canon for repair/replacement[if still with Warranty]
