The easiest way to backup is to buy an external mini hard drive that comes with backup software - You can get 120gb 2.5" external drives for about $100 now. then it will allow you to backup all your files at once.

screen that reads "Press F11 to start recovery." Once this screen
appears, press the F11 key on the keyboard multiple times to make sure
that it registers. If the recovery screen does not come up, you will
need to turn the computer off and back on again and attempt to press the
F11 button again when the prompt appears. After doing that is only necessary to follow the steps.

Hi, You are correct HP do not provide the recovery disks for this Media Center anymore.
I've just about searched the net for anyone who may have recovery CD's for sale but no no avail.
If you can still get into the operating system use HP Backup and Recovery Manager, its quick and user-friendly. To run,
simply go to All Programs > HP Backup & Recovery > HP Backup
and Recovery Manager.
With HP Backup & Recovery Manager, file restoration is easy. To
recover a deleted file, simply use the Restore Wizard.
For a full
system restoration, press the F11 key during boot up and then select
"Recover PC" from the menu if there is a recovery partition available (sometimes you have to hold down Ctrl and hit the F11 key on boot up)
Other than that you may have to purchase a Windows XP or Windows XP Media Center installation CD from a reputable store like PC World for example.
open control panel then display then click screen saver
then power at bottom of page In there you will find Hibernate and other settings that you can change you can disable able hibernate standby and sleep

Restore the PC to original condition with the HP Recovery Manager
Follow the steps below to use HP Recovery Manager to return your notebook to its baseline factory condition, then allow the PC to run all the setup programs.
Press the power button to turn on the PC, and press F11 on the keyboard immediately while the computer is starting up. The HP Backup and Recovery Manager window will appear.
Click Advanced options , select the System recovery option, and then click Next .
If the Recovery Manager can access the hard drive it displays a prompt to backup up user files before continuing the recovery. You may either backup your files, or skip the backup and recover the operating system.
If the Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix the system errors, use the set of Recovery disks that you created to recover the hard drive to its original condition.
After the hard drive is returned to its original condition, restart the PC and allow the PC to run all the setup programs.

Answer: When the notebook restarts, if there is a Recovery Partition a screen with the prompt Press F11 for Emergency Recovery will appear soon after the HP Logo. If we press F11 on that screen, a progress bar will indicate Starting PC Recovery and then the graphical interface of HP Backup and Recovery Manager will pop up with the option to either:
a. Recover the PC to a specific point in time.
b. Back up files.
