Inconsistent printing

In the printer's dialogue find the print pages number. Print page from/to and select 20 pages chunks. In effect print only part of the document at a time. Add all chunks together in one pile. Work around I know, but it works.

Copier Lingo, Jargon, Keywords Explained

When you're shopping for copiers you'll often see a bunch of acronyms or words that don't make any sense to you, the layman. That's what we industry insiders are for, to help translate these words and phrases into coherent thoughts. If you come across any copier lingo that isn't on this list, just contact me and I'll let you know what it means, then I'll add it to this page for future reference.
In alphabetical order:
  • ADF = Automatic document feeder. Every machine since the turn of the century has had one of these. There are variations of this term. See RADF and DHADF.
  • Bypass Tray = an additional paper source that normally supplies envelopes, labels, or heavier paper. It can be used to supply any paper that you don't have readily available in your regular paper trays
  • CPM = copies per minute
  • Developer = A finely ground metal material that adheres to the drum magnetically to transfer an image onto toner, which makes an image on your paper.
  • DHADF = Dual head automatic document feeder. Sometimes call scan squared, this feeder has two scanners that scan both sides of an original in one pass without flipping it around
  • Driver = A print driver is installed on your computer to communicate properly with your model of printer.
  • Drum = The drum is an essential part of the copy process because it "receives" the image from the developer and transfers it onto the paper with toner
  • Drum blade = The blade wipes the drum clean on each rotation. If you have an old drum blade you'll start to find lines on your prints.
  • Duplex = 2-sided printing, copying, or scanning
  • Finisher = An additional piece of hardware that enables the copier to staple and offset sort your printed documents
  • Fuser = The hot section of the copier that fuses the toner off of the drum onto the paper.
  • LCC = Large capacity cassette. This cassette will hold 3,000 or more sheets. It is an additional cost, hardware and adds to the footprint of the copier
  • Ledger Paper = 11 x 17 is commonly referred to as ledger, although it's more often just called "11 x 17"
  • Legal Paper = 8 ½ x 14 paper is commonly referred to as legal
  • Letter Paper = 8 ½ x 11 paper is commonly referred to as letter
  • MFC = Multifunction copier. Implies that it prints and scans along with copying.
  • MFP = Multifunction printer. Most "copiers" nowadays are MFPs.
  • PPM = pages per minute, a modern day variation of CPM since it implies more than just copies
  • RADF = Reversing automatic document feeder. This feeder will automatically flip an original to make a two-sided copy.
  • Saddle Stitch = Another form of finisher that will fold and staple documents like a booklet
  • Sorter = Another term for finisher. It will offset sort your documents and some manufacturers have a stapling function.
  • Toner = Toner is the "ink" of laser printers. It's a VERY fine powder that moves like a liquid, use caution when replacing your toner cartridge. Most toner cartridges nowadays have no open holes for toner to leak, but you should still be careful when handling one.
This should be a big help if this is your first time shopping for the correct copier for your office. If you have found this page you're probably in the process of shopping for a copier, so why not Request a Quote from me while you're at it?! I reside in Houston where I provide free delivery and installation of anything I sell, and I work with network of Sharp dealers all over the USA to get you what you need and have it installed by a professional. Don't delay!

My Brother HL-2040 paper led light won't stop flashing, the paper's not jammed or anything, I just put in a new toner, too. I tried doing what someone else said about opening the cover and holding Go until...

Hi. The reasons listed in the manual that cause the LED to flash normally are:

Front cover is open
Close the front cover of the printer.
Back cover is open
Close the back cover of the printer.
Paper jam
Clear the paper jam. See Paper jams and how to clear them on page 6-5.
If the printer does not start printing, press the Go button.
No paper fed manual feed slot
Put the paper in the manual feed slot. See Printing on plain paper, bond paper
or transparencies from the manual feed slot on page 1-10 or Printing on thick
paper, labels and envelopes from the manual feed slot on page 1-13.
Memory full
The printer memory is full and the printer cannot print full pages of a
document. See Solving print problems on page 6-15.
Print overrun
A print overrun occurred and the printer cannot print full pages of a document.
See Solving print problems on page 6-15.
Drum Error
The corona wire needs to be cleaned. See Cleaning the corona wire on page 5-14.

If you check out page 6-5 it tells how to clear the paper jam from the rear of the machine! A point often missed.

Check out the website below if you don’t have a copy of the instruction manual =

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/files/dlf/doc002089/US_Eur.pdf

If all else fails, try a reset of the printer Drum & Page counter:
  1. With printer tuned on.
  2. Press and hold the “internal button” behind front cover, until all LEDs illuminate.
  3. Make sure Drum light is off, then release and close front cover.
Hope some of this helps………..Please post a response back here and let us all know if it works?............Regards, Cornwellnet (UK)

Brother MFC 7820N Smudging Concern

If smudged stains appear at the top center of the printed page:
  • Make sure the paper is not too thick or curled.
Also, verify that the appropriate paper is being used and that the paper type set in the machine matches the media used.
  • Make sure the paper is not curled when you print on the back side of the paper with the Print Odd Pages and Print Even Pagessettings.

- If smudged stains appear at the right or left corner of the printed page:
  • Make sure the paper is not curled when you print on the back side of the paper with the Print Odd Pages and Print Even Pagessettings.

- If smudged stains appear on the reverse side or at the bottom of the page:

Streaking during printing

Well laser printers don't have print heads they print with a combination of a laser and toner. So I wouldn't buy a car from that person. And rollers are only problems when the paper does not feed, hence the term rollers..
If you are getting white lines across the paper then the toner is not being distributed properly. You can take the toner cartridge out and shake it a few times to spread it out.
If you are getting dark stains, then the print drum is not being cleaned properly by a blade on the inside of the printer. After a page prints a blade goes across the print drum to clean off the excess toner. You would have to get that repaired somewhere that repairs printers.
Hope this helps. Please rate this solutiion.

Toner being deposited on back of page

point check

1.Hallo your rollers are dirty and smudged

2.Is your fuser unit O.k (clean)

3.is your paper good quality or are you using coated paper the wrong side? thereby staining the fuser unit (the hot part of the printer)

4. Most unlikely but have u ever turned your printer upside down??? or excess sideways tilt thereby releasing waste toner from the bottom of the printer to the roof then to your paper???

if all is nay then remove all toners and give your machine a gool blowout
