White vinigar and water half and half. Stinks when you do it. Sometimes have to repeat if water comes out really full of sediment.

The best bet is to contact the company on line and seek the instruction manual for that machine. Usually, the fix is in the back of the manual.

My coffee pot is black inside & using vinegar does not clean it

Use a coffee pot cleaner such as Dip-IT. Walmart sells a product in the coffee maker area that is for cleaning the coffee maker. It cleans the coffee pots too.

Takes very long to brew 8 cups. 30 minutes or so

Hello! W/D here.
Your DCC 1200 is equipped with an internal filter designed to remove contaminants and it is accessed through the reservoir. I'd start with replacing the filter (don't forget to soak the new filter first before installing).
Here's the link to your manual and it gives a good description of changing the filter, and de-scaling your coffee maker.

What is the best way to clean the cuisnart coffee maker

white vinegar will leave the least amount of odor, and can be run through the entire unit safely, just remove the filter part if it is metal. and is non toxic.
Household comet or bleach will completely clean the carafe, and outside parts, however you must rinse COMPLETELY. before use as these are toxic chemicals and should not be ingested.
Never mix chemicals.

There is a very fine screen on the outlet of the carafe that becomes plugged over time with fine coffee grounds. You can see it if you look down inside the pot above where the coffee comes out. Just using coffee pot cleaner won't clean it, because it's fine coffee grounds stuck in the screen, that are slowing the coffee going through it.
It's not easy to reach, so you'll a pair of needle nose pliers. Get ahold of the plastic ridge the runs across the top of it and it pops right out. You can use the bristles of an old toothbrush to scrub it. The bristles will fit in the spaces of the fine screen and force the deposits out. You can probably just leave the screen out altogether, it's just there to stop grounds.
