Question about Brother MFC-8460N Laser Printer
I have a fairly new MFC-8460 that I've successfully replaced the toner unit twice.
Both times, I've used a remanufactured toner unit with no problems.
This time, I can't get the printer to recognize the new cartridge. Same supplier, cartridge looks same and no parts broken. Some say it's the toner counter that needs resetting, but I can't find anyone that has an exact key sequence to reset the counter (so I know it's reset). I can get into maint. mode, but don't have what to so from there.
The manager has even reset the drum counter to no avail. The printer remains locked until I can get two more cartidges to try.
The problem with a new toner cartridge that will not signal the printer that it has been changed has to do with a gear positioned wrong on the new or rebuilt cartridge... we had 3 factory brand new toners that would not clear the replace the toner message... I finally found the following link that came from a toner company that sells refills that tells how to reposition the gear to let the machine know a new cartridge has been installed. I did the proceedure on pages 5 & 6 having to reposition the gear and all cartidges then worked flawless... it works.

Replace the drum and/or toner. With the cover to the printer open (where you would access the drum/toner), press the "Clear/Back" key. Screen will say "Replace drum? 1 = Yes, 2 = No." Press "1" to replace the drum (to eliminate "replace drum" error message on computer) or enter *00 to reset "toner low" warning. Screen should say "accepted" when complete.
