My monitor (731B 17) quit working. It has only been used for my personal use at home. Also it was shutdown everynite. I purchased it from Best Buy 7/27/06. Is there any chance that it can be repaired? 12.99 for your opinion? What does it cost to call? Peggy McIvor

Peggy, Anything can be repaired in my country. But in yours it may not be economical to repair it. three yrs is not too long a life for a monitor. Hence there is no hard taking a trip to the repairer for his estimates. If he is not charging too much you can decide if you want a repaired one at home or a new one with a little more money. Choice has to be yours. Sometimes it could be a small defect in connections or a small part gone wrong in the circuit or some such thing that caused you the problem. So, pick it up and take it to the repairer. It may cost you very little compared to a new one.

Have a Samsung SyncMaster 731B (Black) 17 inch LCD Monitor. The screen is black other than a very very very faint glow of the box when pushing the setting and menu buttons. Any ideas?

Might be a case of the backlight giving up. If this is the case, you have two options, replace the backlight (expensive and pretty difficult to do a good job of) or replace the whole thing. I'd go with the second option, as LCD monitors are pretty cheap at the moment! Stick with Samsung SyncMasters though, they do good price monitors that are reasonably reliable too. Either that or a Dell monitor.

I have a samsung 731b 17' that works, but I have a samsung 19", 250bw with power supply problem, can I change out the power supply unit and put into the other. I have three 19" lcd.

No, the 19" uses more power to drive the lamps, and the power supply will not be the same to interface with the logic board either.
What kind of problem you have with the 250bw?

I've had good results with the Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) tubes from Moniserv's parts site. In particular, check out the tech support page.

The screen remains blank after "Fn-F8" to send the video from the laptop to the monitor. Device Manager says it is working fine & a driver update search says the most current drivers are installed. ...

cbaysail03, May be time to inspect the "switch-mode-power-supply"/"inverter supply" of the 731b!! If you can solder $5 worth of new "filter capacitors" on the power supply printed circuit board, unit might be brought back to life for another 2- 4 years use. To find out what is involved, go visit YOUTUBE, do search using "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" . Lots of owners are learning to do the repair work to save them from buying new. Some fix old unit and also buy new, keeping old as spare unit or use for their kids pc! Have you connected 731b unit to a full size desktop pc with same results? 12fixlouie

My samsung syncmaster 731b monitor screen turns off when i start up my system. I have to turn it on and off several times to get it to stay on .Do i need a new monitor. Harold

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Morning start-up of monitor takes a long time. "Analog" appears at top left, then picture goes off. After turning monitor off-on many times, monitor eventually stays on and works fine the rest of the...

This is usually caused by the video card doens't have enough power or is degraded, the video cable is bad/poor.
Connect the monitor to another computer and verify that it isn't the monitor. If so, confirm that it is the monitor. Otherwise it is the video card.
If it is embedded video card, purchase/borrow another video card and install it. If you don't replace the card, you will have to disable the embedded video for the video card to work.
