How can i center my monitor picture

How can i center my desktop of windows on the monitor? I cannot see my START button of windows. It is unvisible

Should be menu buttons just below the display. Allows you to move the picture, change contrast, brightness, etc.

How to connect Laptop to an External Monitor?


Most of the notebooks that were manufactured in the past two-three years come with a HDMI port along with the old VGA port to connect your computer to an external display. Connecting and activating an external display on a Windows 7 machine is pretty simple.

Here is how to connect your Windows 7 installed notebook to an external display:
1. Connect your Windows 7 laptop to the external display using VGA or HDMI cable.
2. Then, switch on your Windows 7 laptop and also the external display.
3. Once Windows 7 is up and running, type Mobility Center in Start menu search area and hit enter to open the same.

4. If you have connected your Windows 7 machine to the external display properly, you should now see Display connected text under External display section of Windows Mobility Center. To use the connected external display, click Connect Display button. You should now see your Windows 7 desktop in the external display as well.

I cannot turn on my firewall


check firewall settings

Click on "Start" in the lower left-hand portion of your desktop screen. Select Control Panel and then Security Center to open the Windows Security Center. Navigate to the bottom of the form and click the "Windows Firewall" link. Select one of the two radio buttons as desired on the Windows Firewall form that opens. The "On" radio button is the recommended choice. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of form. Close the Windows Security Center window and close the Control Panel window. Hope this helps.

It is the picture picture board on your monitor that is malfunctioning, since the power led or button is on, but the display screen goes blank after a few seconds, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity or any service center to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Trying to get start button and shortcut icons on the same monitor


go to desktop - right click, select "properties", then "settings", with 2 monitors you should see both here. Make sure you have "extend my Windows onto this monitor" checked.

You should be able to drag the icons over to the same monitor as the start button.

When you drag your mouse across the screen it should move across both monitors.

Sound was stopped by pushing sound symbol on HP monitor.


click on the start button >> select Run. In the Run box type "services.msc" without the quotes and press Enter.
Services window will open up, select "windows audio" from the list, double click on it, the startup type should be Automatic and then click on Start button to start this service. Problem should be solved by now.

My desktop is not centered and the fonts are too big. Also my Start button and bottom toolbar have disappeared.


Sounds like your resolution has been set too low.

Firstly, i'm going to assume you have a 17" LCD monitor, and that you are running Windows XP. (what a guess!) =-]

Generally, you'd want to right-click the desktop in a blank area, select properties. This gives you the display properties. Go to the last tab across called "settings", then under "screen resolution", drag the slider up a notch and hit apply. If it looks right, leave it at that. If it's not quite right, go another notch and apply. Keep going until you have it right.

But on your 17" LCD monitor, running the DVI cable to the PC... the computer should already have detected it's maximum resolution. In this case, you can drag the slider all the way to the right and hit apply, knowing that this is the optimal resolution. Also on your Dell LCD, you should have several buttons for adjusting the screen. One of those buttons is usually a "self-adjust" or "auto detect" or "some other obvious thing" for self-adjusting the screen viewable area. It *should* do this automatically when you change resolutions, which your Dell 173FPb should do anyway. =-]

I am trying to scan a pic and my scaner says no scan options


Step one: Verify that the Digital Imaging Monitor is ready The Digital Imaging Monitor must be running in order for the Scan To function to work. The Digital Imaging Monitor icon normally appears in the system tray at the lower-right corner of the computer screen, and the monitor is ready when a check mark appears on the icon after Startup is complete. If the Digital Imaging Monitor is in the system tray, proceed to Step two. If the Digital Imaging Monitor does not appear in the system tray, follow these steps. Windows 98, Me, and XP
  1. Click Start , and then click Run .
  2. In the Open text box, type msconfig .
  3. Click OK .
  4. In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.
  5. Search the list for HP Digital Imaging Monitor . If HP Digital Imaging Monitor is not on the list, the driver was not correctly installed or a custom install was used. Proceed to step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.
  6. Select the HP Digital Imaging Monitor check box.
  7. Click Apply , and then click Close .
  8. Click Yes to restart.
Windows Vista
  1. Click Start .
  2. In the Start Search text box, type msconfig and press Enter .

  6. Select the HP Digital Imaging Monitor check box.
  7. Click Apply , and then click Close .

Step two: Populate the destination list The destination list must be populated in order for the Scan To function to work. Follow these steps to populate the destination list.
  1. Open the HP Solution Center. Use one of the following methods to open the HP Solution Center.
    • On the Windows desktop, double-click the HP Solution Center icon.
    • On the taskbar, click Start , Programs , or All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
    If more than one HP device is installed, click the tab for the All-in-One product. The HP Solution Center shows only the functions, settings, and support options that are appropriate for the selected HP product.
  2. Click Settings .
  3. Click Scan Settings and Preferences .
  4. Click Scan to... Setup .
  5. Click the Destination List tab. NOTE: Depending on the computer performance, it can take several minutes for the Front Panel Destination List to populate after the printer or computer is turned on.
  6. If the Front Panel Destination List is empty, continue with this procedure. If the Front Panel Destination List contains valid scan destinations, proceed to step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.
  7. Click each program to include on the Scan To list.
  8. Click the Add arrow.
  9. Click OK .
  10. Scan a document using the Scan To button on the front panel.
  11. If the scan fails, try to scan using the HP Solution Center Scan button. If the scan still fails, proceed to Step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.
Step three: Uninstall and reinstall the software
  1. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installer should automatically start.
  2. If the software installer does not automatically start, complete the following steps.
    1. Click Start , and then click Run .
    2. In the Open text box, type X:\setup , where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive.
    3. Click OK .
  3. On the installer screen, click Uninstall . If there is no Uninstall option, the software installation is incomplete.
  4. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installer should automatically start.
  5. If the model supports custom install, install HP Imaging Device Functions to scan from the printer. The recommended install will install this feature automatically. It must be manually selected during a custom install.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions until the printer software is completely installed.
  7. After successful installation, scan a document.

First check whether you are able to scan from hp solution center.

then check whether you are able to scan from ms paint.

to check: open paint, click on file-->from scanners and camera.
if it is scanning then proceed to the following steps or else uninstall the software and reinstall it

  • Scan a document using the Scan To button on the front panel.
  • If the scan fails, try to scan using the HP Solution Center Scan button.

  • If the above steps doesnt solve your problem, please uninstall the software and reinstall it.
