Question about Maytag MDB9100A Dishwasher

Open Question

I have a greasy black residue in my dishwasher

The residue is on the walls and racks of the dishwasher and it also gets on any soft plastic items (tupperware, cups, etc) that I wash. It does not get on porcelain or utensils or hard plastic. It will come off the dishes with some soap and water and scrubbing but I haven't been able to get it off the dishwasher or figure out where it's coming from .

SOURCE: Soap remains in soap cup after complete cycle is run

I had the same problem. The door on the cup does not open all the way. Here is what I did. On the back of the dishwasher door are 7 phillip head screws. Take those out and the door inner cover comes off. There are 2 pieces of black insulation that are glued to the cover. The smaller one had slid down to where it was blocking the cup door from opening all the way. Pull this black insulation off and put it back in the right place. I even put a little hot glue under to keep it from sliding again. Hope this works.

SOURCE: Soap residue on all items after dishwasher completes its cycle.

Hi Rioski

The first thing to do is where you put the jetdry turn it down to one. use powdered detergent the best is electosol is the blue box, dont use the heated dry feature and run the hot water at the sink first to get it good and hot that should fix the problem. I also recomend using GLISTEN every 6 months. its a citric acid that is designed to clean the dishwasher. i hope this helped.

SOURCE: dishes not getting clean

the problem is hard water leaving the residue. go to www.dishwasherfilter.com and get the dishwasher filtration system. it will reduce the hard minerals that leave the residue and your dishes will be clean as can be. it is very affordable and fits right under your sink.

Hi,

Dishwasher - Soap Stuck in Cup If you have dishwasher detergent stuck in the soap cup after a full cycle, please check for the following conditions:

  • The water temperature should be at 120 degrees (140 degrees if your dishwasher has water heating capability). Check your water temperature Check your water temperature.

  • Make sure the soap cup is not blocked by anything.

  • Allow the dishwasher to fill and make sure it is getting a proper amount of water. The dishwasher should fill for about 90 seconds. On permatuf models, the water should measure 3/8" above the island near the center of the tub. On all other models, the water should measure about 1/2" below the heating element.

  • Check the lower spray arm for any blockage in spray holes or items that would restrict its turning.

  • Make sure the soap cup has opened at the end of the cycle.

  • Check the sump area inside the dishwasher for any restrictions.

A couple of thoughts:

1) It could be a gasket somewhere starting to break down. Check your door seal.

2) Food particles could have gotten caught somewhere in the drain hose, or something, and then turned black with mold and bacteria, then when you wash, they get siphoned back into the dishwasher if the flap which composes the anti-siphon check valve on the drain hose is starting to stick open.

Try putting a cup of bleach in the top rack and run a complete cycle with no other dishes in it. Then, load up some plastic dishes and wash them as normal. See if that helps. If it does, replace your check valve.

Also, insure that your drain hose is looped up above the bottom of your sink to prevent debris from your garbage disposal backing up into your dishwasher.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Dishwasher leaves residue in top rack only

Most cleaning problems are caused by the dishwasher not getting enough water. It could be cause of the switch level, which control water level in the tub. The switch level is usually a diaphragm device with a small clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. I am not familiar with your machine, but if you will open the rear panel you will find it easily. Be aware you should discoonect the power cable !!! Clear the tube (attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub) from any obstruction. In case it will not solve the problem, you should replace the switch. Good luck !
