Whirlpool dryer lgq8858jq2 how to get at the gas valve? How to get front panel off?

Also there is a wiring connector for the saftey switch on the door which will need to be unplugged before you lift the front panel off. This is easier achieved with the help of a small screw driver to release the catches on the connector.

The top of the dryer has to come off to get the front panel off which exposes the gas valve. The top is secured by clips in the front of the dryer. Use a screwdriver to pry it upwards and it will release. It is hinged at the rear just lift it open.

After this top is open, there are two screws near the top on each side which hold the front panel on. remove these two screws. Then grab the front panel on each side (from the front) Lean it out slightly to release it from the drum and then lift it upward on each side and it slides right off the clips at the bottom. Just reverse these steps to put it back on.

You should have a small object like a 2 x 4 about 6" long to put under the front of the drum to hold it up while you work on the dryer. I used a small cardboard box.

How do I get at the valve coil when the dryer does not have a front access panel. Whirlpool LGR4634JQ2

Ok, this dryer actually does have a front service panel, the entire front to be precise.
You will need to remove your lint screen first.

Now remove the two phillips head screws located at the lint screen inlet.

Next while standing in front of the dryer place a hand on the back of the control panel and pull the panel towards you. The entire top of the dryer should slide forward slightly and as it does use your fingertips to lift the top on the side you are pulling on at the front of the top where it meets the front panel. Now switch to the other side and repeat this until the entire front edge of the top is loose from the front panel.

Now lift the front of the top up and allow it to swing up like the hood on a car, let it lean against the wall.

Inside the front of the dryer you will see two screws that hold the top of the front panel to the sides of the unit. Remove these two screws and allow the top of the front panel to come forward slightly so that the felt support for the front of the drum is exposed on the top of the door opening. You may have to push the top of the drum towards the rear of the dryer.

Now pull up on first one side of the front panel and then the other side to disengage the lower portion of the front from the clips on the face of the side panels (they are like little hooks the front panel slips onto).

Once the front panel is loose you can usually swing it 90 degrees out to provide the access you need to your gas valve located in the bottom of the dryer (without disconnecting the door switch.

The drum should remain stationary as it will suspend on the two rear drum rollers while you work.

The gas valve coils are held to the gas valve by one steel cover plate that has two phillips head screws holding it to the valve.

Remove cover plate and wire connections, replace coils and reverse these instructions for re-assembly.

Good luck to you!

Flame turns on only when dryer is cold, runs for 10 minutes then burner shuts off. The coil glows very bright but the flame does not come on again until dryer has colled way down

The gas valve coils are bad. When they heat up they are losing resistance to stay on.
Turn off the gas. Unplug the machine. Remove the front panel. The gas valve will be in the front right hand corner. Remove the gas valves and replace them with new valves. Please note how the coils orient on the gas valve.

How to replace gas coil valves on Whirlpool LGR5636EQ3 Gas Dryer

DOES YOUR DRYER HAVE THE LINT SCREEN ON THE TOP? IF SO, REMOVE THAT AND TAKE TWO SCREWS OF(CARE NOT TO DROP IT INTO THE VENT). PULL THE TOP PANEL TOWARD YOU LITTLE BIT AND LIFT UP, THERE WILL BE TWO 5/16 SCREWS INSIDE FRONT PANEL, REMOVE AND UNPLUG THE LID SWITCH CONNECTOR, FRONT PANEL WILL COME OUT. THE GAS VALVES AND COILS ASSEMBLY WILL BE ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT. UNPLUG AND TAKE THE SCREWS OFF THE BRACKET AND REPLACE COILS. CHECK FOR CONTINUITY ON COILS, IT SHOULD READ 1.3 TO 1.9 OHMS. THE ONE WITH THREE TERMINAL, CHECK OHM FROM MIDDLE TERMINAL TO OUTSIDE TERMINALS.

Gas dryer will not stay warm for long

Hi, You will need to replace the coils on top of the gas valve.
There is a small plastic cap that you can remove in the lower front panel. Start the dryer and see if the ignitor glows and shuts off before the gas ignites. If this is the case, the coils need replaced. This is a very common issue with the gas dryer.
Here is how to change the coils:
UNPLUG the dryer. This model you need to remove the two screws under the lint screen. Now use a flat blade screw drive and insert it in the gap between the top and the front panel and pry the top up. Now locate and remove the screws on the inside of the front panel in upper corners. The front should lift off. You will see the two black coils on the gas valve. When you remove the three wire coil, make sure the sleeve inside it gets put back on the post the coils slides onto.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks
Vic

No heat, blowing cold air

Hi, You will need to change the coils. They get weak later in cycle and will not open the valve.
Does the moise accur when the gas ignites in the first part of the dry cycle. It is possible the gas valve is starting to go bad but, it is not very common.
Convett my whirlpool gas dryer to vent from the side

Whirlpool makes a kit for this, however since you have a gas dryer, you will not be able to vent out the side the gas heater is on.

Take the front panel off and look for the gas valve it should be on the left side, if you need to vent out on the left side you will not be able too.
