Re: glass cooktop keeps cracking in same area

The cooktop box has a metal flange. Make sure the cooktop when dropped into the countertop is resting on ther metal flange and not the glass edge by itself. If it rests on the glass alone the weight will cause the glass to crack at some point in time.

Re: glass cooktop keeps cracking in same area

I have the same problem with the Kenmore Elite cooktop 4428. The unit has cracked twice in the same spot while cooking, in a little over a year. I've also received 5 other defective units when Sears tried to replace the cracked units. I requested they replace with a gas unit but Sears refused. They just want to keep replacing the glass top($800) instead of fixing the issue!

Cracked glass top stove. is it covered under a waranty? it is maybe 4 years old. brought at sears its a whirlpool stove.

whirlpool offers a five year warranty on glass cooktops for thermal damage only not for customer mishaps so call a certified repair place and they can get you a new cooktop if you tell them that it is thermal cracking

Kitchenaid 36" glass cooktop with small crack

A small crack, turns into a big crack, Short of ordering a new piece of glass, there is no "fix" sorry. YOu can continue to use it, but eventually it will run across the cook top, and then shatter the glass... Better be safe than sorry.

Crack on the corner - we have a run on the ceramic

Glass on cooktops are not fixable - due to the chance of electrical shocks the manufacturer strongly suggest replacement of the glass.

Profile gas on glass cooktop

Hello mkerfoot, I know the feeling. The same complaint I hear about on SS. I just sink type dish washing detergent to clean the grease off and a paper towel with vinegar water solution. For heavy staining on the burner area, apply the dw detergent full strenght and let it sit to loosen the debre. Hope this helps.

Broken glass cook top

The top can not be repaired. The glass must be replaced . DO NOT USE IT CRACKED!!!!!!!!!!!! This is very dangerous as it can explode from the temperature. Also this is a severe electrical danger as glass top units have exposed elements underneath. Any liquid at all can short it out and cause a fire. I don't know if it is worth repairing. I don't have the exact price for your cooktop but last one I priced was between $350 - $500.
