Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

Ld (Long Drain) flashes

The washer does not drain. I manually drained the water into a bucket, removed the drain hose from the machine and spent a lot of time cleaning many small pieces of debris from it. Thought that would fix it. Re-assembled it, did a small load of clothes, got the "Ld" error again. Is there a pump that might be defective? Is there a control board that might keep a pump from working? Are there repair people available?

I did the same thing. Cleaned out debris from the drain hose, but the water will not go out of the maching, using the spin cycle. Now I am getting some water from above, and running down the back of the mechanical part of the machine, with just an inch or two of water left in the machine.

There is definately a pump that should be working to remove the water. Try to listen for it when it gets to the draining cycle. A pump is a part that typically has to be changed form time to time, and you if you're handy you can probably do the work yourself.

There is probably also a board that controls thisd, but I don't know if that can be changed.

How do I force washer in drain cycle?

Hey Nick, to force your washer to drain is really easy. You will need a bucket and some extra towels. Simply remove the drain hose from the house drain pipe and lower into the bucket. If your bucket fills up, simply raise the hose above the level of the washing machine and the water flow will cease. Please reconnect with us if you do need any further assistance. Best Regards, JK

How to Fix a Washer That Won't Drain

Consult your troubleshooting manual. Most washers come with a troubleshooting manual. If your washer is giving you an error code, check to see what the manual says the problem is. The most common error code for long drain time is F9 E1, but your washer may be different. If the manual says your pump needs to be replaced, you need to call a repair man or refer to How to Replace a Washing Machine Water Pump..
2
Check your drain hose. Remove the drain hose from the back of the washer. Run a moderate to high pressure water stream through it (an outdoor water hose connection works great). If it is clogged, this should force the clog out.
  • Replace the hose on the machine, ensuring that the outlet the hose goes into is not more than 8 feet (2.4 m) from the floor, that the end of the hose is no more than 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) into the drain hole, that the drain hole is not taped shut, and that the hose is not kinked or bent. These can all affect your drain time.
3
Run the rinse/spin cycle on your washer. If it drains, you are done. If it doesn't, proceed to step 4.
4
Clean the pump. First, unplug the machine. Then find out where the pump is located on your machine. It is usually in the back for top loaders and in the front below the door for front loaders. You may have to remove a panel to get to it. When you find the pump, there will be a section that is round with an oval handle in the center. It will probably be white plastic.
5
Turn the handle counter-clockwise to remove the screen. Don't be afraid to apply pressure, it is a very tight seal. Make sure you have a bucket and towels ready to catch any water that gushes out. Inside, you will probably find a lot of lint, some change, and possibly some small pieces of cloth or socks.
6
Remove everything from the screen and rinse it off. Stick your finger in the hole to the right of the screen and make sure nothing is caught in the pump fan and that it moves freely, then replace the filter, turning it clockwise until it is tight, and then replace any panels you removed.

How do i drain the washer for moving it

Mike,

I cannot tell whether you are talking about (1) the little bit of residual water in the machine after it's done, or (2) about a machine that's stopped mid-cycle with a good deal of water, so I'll respond to both cases.

(1) The lowest point in the washing machine is the drain outlet at the back to which the drain hose attaches. First remove the free end of the drain hose from the drain pipe and place it in a bucket sitting on the floor. That will get most of the water. Then place a towel on the floor and remove the other end of the drain hose from the machine. Remaining water will spill out from the outlet and hose onto the towel. You might get a little more if you lift the front of the machine, tilting it backward.

(2) If you can't drain the machine and it's full of water, you will need to siphon it. Take a piece of tubing, at least five feet long. You could use a piece of garden hose if you have nothing else. If you don't have a door or window nearby, you will need TWO buckets. Place the buckets on the floor in front of the machine. Place the siphon hose into the washer tub starting with one end to fill it with water. When it's completely in, cover one end, take it out, place it into a bucket. If the siphon doesn't automatically start, get down low on the floor, place the hose into your mouth and inhale. You may have to do this several times, possibly covering the tubing end with your tongue between inhalations. When the bucket is nearly full, switch the hose to the empty bucket and empty the first one. You will probably have several buckets of water. (Of course if your washing machine is near an outside door, you can simply start the siphon outside and omit the buckets.)

My machine will not pump water, and I cannot remove the load that is currently in there

If it's not draining you have to manually drain the washer by pulling the drain hose out. You can also pull the drain hose out of the drain pipe it drains into and lower it into a 5 gallon bucket to get most of the water out without such a mess.

The washer will not spin. All the lights are flashing and the indicator has an "LD" showing. The washer is 4.5 cu ft, 2006.

LD does mean long drain so the best thing to check is the drain pump itself and the connections to the drain pump. Remove all the water out manually (as much as possible) then tip the machine backwards so you can get underneath of it. Near the back is the drain pump and it's connected to the drain hose itself. Disconnect the drain hose as well as the hose coming from the tub and see if anything is jamming the drain pump motor or hoses. If everything checks clear and good, replace the drain pump motor, otherwise just clear out the blockage.

I have a LG front loader WD8050FH, can't find the manual and it is flashing no drain.... How can I fix the machine to make it drain again, this is the first time I have had this problem in over 10...

Hello,

There are several reasons that a washing machine won't drain or spin. The cause could be something as easy as a clog or something difficult that will need a licensed repairman. Start with the simplest possible cause and work down to the more difficult causes.

Challenging Instructions And Things You'll Need:
  • Screwdriver,Flashlight,Voltmeter,Wrenches,Bucket,Rags or mop.
  1. A washing machine won't spin if the water can't drain. Check hoses for any kinks or clogs that may prevent the water from draining. If a hose has kinks, try to straighten out the kinked hose. If it can't be straighten sufficiently, replace the hose. If hoses are not kinked, check for clogged hoses. This can be done by using the screwdrivers to remove the hoses and looking for clogs or running a water hose through the clogged hose to remove the clog. Use the rags and bucket to clean up the water that comes out of the hoses when they are disconnected. Once the clog is cleared, put the drain hose back into place. The washer should drain and spin now if a clogged or kinked hose was the problem.
  2. If the washer still won't drain or spin, check to see if the lid is not closing all the way or if the lid switch is not clicking into place. Close the lid and make sure that it closes all the way down. When the lid closes, the lid switch should click. If there is no clicking sound, then the switch may need to be replaced. Follow manufacturer's directions for replacing the switch. If the lid does not close all the way, visually check for signs that the lid is bent. If bent, try to bend it back into place.
  3. Loose or broken belts could also prevent a washing machine from draining or spinning. Pull the washer away from the wall and, using the screwdrivers and wrenches, remove the back panel. Using the flashlight, visually check for any broken or loose belts. Replace any broken or loose belts. Although replacing washing machine belts is difficult, anyone who has replaced belts on a car , lawn mower or even a bicycle chain should be able to accomplish the task.
  4. Another possibility for a washing machine to not spin or drain is the pump. With the back panel still off the washer, check the pump with the voltmeter to ensure that the pump is getting power. If the washer is getting power, turn on the washer and listen to find out if the pump is running but the water is still not draining. It may be necessary to remove the pump and clean it or to replace the pump with a new one. Once the pump is replaced, turn on the washer to determine if it will now drain and spin.
  5. If all of the above steps fail to produce a washing machine that drains or spins, then it is time to call a professional repairman. Use the screwdrivers and wrenches to replace the panel on the washer and push it back against the wall.
Hope this help?.

Thanks for using fixya.

LD error on the Whirlpool Cabrio Washer. We are trying to remove the drum to remove items

Hi

Ld error indicates long drain and flashes when the water level will not change even after the drain pump is on. To resolve this please make sure that the drain hose is not clogged and the pump is working. To gain access to the drain pump you can lay the machine on its front then remove the drain hose and replace the pump if the impeller has gone bad. Please post a comment if need more help.

Thanks
