There is a nut that you release from the middle of the grinder wheel, (grinder blade)
This nut is flat and has four holes in it.

You will see you are providing a spanner wrench to remove this nut. The wrenches' actual name is Lock Nut Wrench. It has a U shaped end with two pins sticking out. On on each side of the U shape.

The pins are inserted into the holes in the flat lock nut, located in the middle of the grinding wheel. The wrench is laid flat against the grinding wheel, with the two pins of the wrench going into any two holes of the nut.

At the top of the Makita grinder you will see a Black button. The button is pushed down to keep the grinding wheel from spinning. Holds the grinding wheel in place, as you turn the lock nut loose. When you release the button, a spring inside pushes the button back up out of the way.

As you view the Makita grinder, Release Button towards the Back, grinding wheel towards you, the nut is turned to the LEFT, to loosen. It is a Left threaded nut.

The grinding wheel spins to the Right. Using a left threaded nut insures that the nut will stay tight, due to the direction the grinding wheel spins.

    Error:
"On on each side of the U shape", should be "One on each side of the U shape"

    Additional error, my apologizes!
As you view the grinding wheel facing you, the locknut is turned towards the RIGHT to loosen.
Again my apologizes for this erroneous statement.

SOURCE: angle grinder

on a grinder the nut that holds the wheel on has left handed threads.....that means it has to be turned in the opposite direction than conventional nuts do..there should be a button on the casing to hold in..this keeps the grinding wheel from turning wheel being removed....remember to unplug first..thanks and have a great day

How do you get to the inside of a makita 4.5"

there is a screw in the bottom of grinder next to the power cord, that's all you have to take.
(althought I don't know the model of your grinder, the most of makita brands have the screw right there) good luck!

How many seconds of grind for standard drip grind

I've long ago lost the manual that came with my grinder (I actually don't remember if it even had one), but I don't think it listed grinding times. You just grind a few seconds and check, then grind a little more if it's still too coarse. Unlike a burr grinder which is adjustable, in a blade grinder the same grind time may result in different consistencies as you change beans. By now I've just learned how long to hold the button for the different beans I buy, and the first few times I try a new blend or varietal I have to adjust the time. I think you'll just need to experiment and then you'll know what works best for your tastes.

My makita grinder was working just fine wile I was grinding it just quit on me and now it will not even start

You can try removing brush covers and brushes to check and clean as needed.I have a makita grinder and have to change brushes about every two years but I use mine a lot in very dusty conditions.I think that I would probably check on/off switch about first as I have had mine do exactly what you have and I replaced the switch and it's still working.I have had mine for 15 years.Great little grinders. If you feel comfortable doing so you can bypass swith to make sure motor is good. Best of luck and thank you.

Angle grinder eats carbon brushes

Yes, the rock dust is what's destroying your brushes and armatures. It gets sucked into the rear vent slots and gets to those parts and eats them away quickly. I don't know of any vacuum systems make by Makita but there are some companies that make them for their systems. Blastrac is one that comes to mind but they can be real expensive systems. I don't know of any grinders with sealed brush/armature systems, they have too much heat to disipate. To make your Makita grinders last longer make sure you are cutting with the side of the blade that directs the dust away from the case and try to have a strong airflow blowing the dust away from the grinder to minimize the dust taken in at the back of the grinder.

I got a Makita4

Your missing the flat wrench that goes under the blade and holds the shaft from turning. I can't find anywhere to buy just the wrench. If you can find an old 14mm wrench and grind it down on both sides so that it's only about 1/8 of an inch thick it should work.

How to change a cutting disc.

You can download a manual for a 9" unit (9069S) from
http://www.materielsektionen.dk/skabelon/pdf/359.pdf

I know it's a Danish site, but the manual itself is multi-lingual and includes English.
