Question Operating system? Vintage of the PC? USB I'm assuming? Any error messages? If you have a memory card reader unplug it if you can then try. Go to device manager by right clicking on my computer choose manage computer, look for any yellow "?", if nothing there, then go to disk management and see if the disk is there. sometimes if there are more than one disk type devices such as extra hard drives, CDrom / DVDrom card readers and such it will mask over the external hard drive. so then if the drive is there, then right click on the drive, NOT THE C DRIVE, and change the drive letter to something like M or O.

When you plug the drive in, does the device spin up? do lights come on? Have you tried other USB ports? do you have access to another computer to make sure the external USB drive is working?

Ue boom connected to pc but is not playing music... if i get lucky i get muffled sounds play back, how do i fix this

Q: What should I do if the audio is distorted or drops out on my UE BOOM?

A: Audio distorted or dropping out when streaming to UE BOOM
If you're having trouble with audio distortion or drop-outs on your UE BOOM, try these suggestions:
  • Move the audio source closer - it might be out of the range of your speaker.
  • Move away from other sources of wireless signal - you could be experiencing interference.
  • Make sure your speaker has enough battery power (connect it to a power source with the supplied adapter).
  • Adjust the volume on both the audio source and your speaker.
  • Restart both your speaker and the audio source.
  • Re-pair your device with your speaker (see, "How do I pair additional Bluetooth® devices with my speaker?").
  • If you're using two UE BOOM speakers (for Double Up), try disconnecting and streaming to one speaker only.
NOTE: If you're streaming audio content from the internet, the issue could be with the internet connection and not your speaker.

The light comes on the PC knows a USB device has been connected on my IOMAGE MODEL-MDHD500-UE , but the hard disk does not spin up whats happend?

couple of things to try.

if the external has an ac adapter it uses and you have access to a volt meter check it to make sure it has the correct out put. I recently ran into this the other day and that was the issue.

if you do that and it is showing that it is good you can try to remove the hdd from its enclosure and directly plug it in internally. you may have to change its jumpers to cable select or slave. if it is recognized then the external controller card may have gone bad. I've seen this happen to.

if all of these tricks fail then most likely it is the drive. look online to see if you sitll have warranty left they may replace any of these damaged parts if it is indeed the cause of the problem.

hope this was helpful.

Ineed to know what power supply the mdhd500-ue hard uses

I presume you are trying to fix that unit. i suggest you remove the hard drive (if you already have it open and it isn't under warrenty). hook it up to your desktop computer as a spare drive and see if your computer recognizes it.

I have a Iomega MDHD500-UE that has worked fine for probably 18 months but in the last week my Apple NoteBook Pro is losing connection with it after about 5 to 10 minutes. I upgraded to Snow Leopold about...

I would very soon, purchase a hard drive and get all the files off this drive asap.
I had a drive that would work with symptoms like this and it eventually completely stopped. I heeded it's warnings and got all my file off and backed up onto another drive before it was too late. Plus drives ...big sized are really inexpensive right now...
Get a backup.... don't take a chance..

I am asked for a password yet I have not put one in model MDHD500-UE

Ok, maybe someone has set a password in the CMOS or motherboard configuration. To remove the password, open the casing of your computer and remove the battery, and replace it after 30 seconds. that's it. hope this solves the problem.

I have a iomega mdhd500-ue for about past ten months.when switched on it useually whirls into action but now it is just making a repeated clicking sound and it is not connecting to my laptop

I have a MDHD500-N Iomega external HD that had the same issue - clicking at startup and flashing power LED. I noticed that the supplied power transformer for the unit is 12V 1A and the sticker on the HD enclosure says 12V 2A. I hooked up the HD enclosure directly to a power supply - at boot up, the HD draws 2.5A, more than double what the provided power transformer can output. HD enclosure runs beautifully on an external PS.
