How do I a new install an ink cartridge?

No, you do not remove the orange device. there should be tabs on the front of that to push or pull. that will unseat the cartridge and you can then remove it by hand and replace.

Solution 1:
  • Open the paper output tray.
  • Turn on the printer and open the scanning unit. The printer cartridge carriage will move to the center. Open the inner cover securing the cartridge in place by pulling it downward.
  • Press the tab on the problematic ink cartridge and lift it to remove it from the printer. You will be able to tell which ink cartridge is causing the problem because its indicator light will be off or flashing.
  • Open the replacement ink cartridge and pull the orange tape in the direction of the arrow to remove the protective film. Tear the orange tape off along the dotted line.
  • Place the ink cartridges into the printer and press where indicated on the cartridge until it clicks into place. Ensure that all ink cartridges have a red indicator light showing that they are properly installed.
  • Close the inner cover on the cartridge carriage and the scanning unit. The printer will automatically start a print head cleaning cycle. When the cleaning cycle is complete, the printer is ready to use.
Solution 2:
  • Put the little green circuit board from the old ink cartridge of the same color in the new cartridge.

(2) Remove the orange protective cap from the bottom of the ink tank and discard it.
bullet_s.gif Be sure to remove the clear film from the ink tank in the exact order shown in step 4-(1), as failure to follow this step may cause the ink to leak and stain your clothes and hands.

bullet_s.gif To maintain optimal print quality, use an ink tank within six months of first use.
bullet_s.gif Once an ink tank has been used, do not remove it from the printer and leave it out in the open. This will cause the ink tank to dry out and the printer may not operate properly when it is reinstalled.
bullet_s.gif Color ink consumption may occur even when black-and-white or gray scale printing is specified.
Color ink is consumed in the head cleaning and deep cleaning, which are necessary to maintain the printer.
bullet_s.gif When you start printing after replacing the ink tank, Print Head Cleaning is performed automatically. Do not perform any other operations until the Print Head Cleaning finishes. The POWER lamp flashes green during cleaning.

How do I change the ink cartridges's?

Confirm that the printer power in on, and that the machine is idle (not busy printing).

Have the new ink tank handy. You need to complete the installation within 10 minutes (however, you can start again).

1) Open the top cover - the printhead moves to the replacement position

2) Remove the tank to be replaced by pushing in gently on the front tab and lifting up, then out on the tank to be removed

3) Make sure you have the correct replacement ink tank. Tear the orange strip completely from the new ink tank and remove the packaging film

4) Remove the orange plastic protector cap

5) Insert the new ink tank in the correct slot and push in and down until it clicks into place.

6) Close the top cover

7) The next time the printer starts, it may initiate a procedure for preparing the (any) new cartridge(s). Let it complete this procedure before sending a print job.

I hope this info was helpful!

Blank pages coming out of i850 with new printhead

Alarm / Power light flashes orange 7 times consecutively is a Print head error so it sounds like you did the right thing.

I would reseat the printhead along with each one of the ink cartridges. Make sure that you removed the tape from the bottom of each of the ink cartridges and try it again. After installing the new printhead, you should have run a printhead cleaning cycle immediately after installing.

Issue: Certain colors are missing or no ink prints on the paper
Solution: Install / replace the recommended ink tanks correctly i550 / i850

Untitled Document How to install / replace the ink tanks
The ink tanks suitable for the printer are as follows;

Black Ink Tank BCI-3eBK
Cyan Ink Tank BCI-3eC
Magenta Ink Tank BCI-3eM
Yellow Ink Tank BCI-3eY

Note: There are two ink tank label designs.
Operation procedures are shown with label design A.

labelsa.jpg Replacement Procedure

1. Check that the printer is powered on, and open the front cover. Wait until the print head moves to the center.

2. Remove the empty ink tank by pushing the tab on the ink tank.

Note: When doing this, do not remove the print head. When replacing multiple ink tanks, it is recommended to replace one at a time to avoid inserting them into the wrong slots.
(The image is an example using i850.)

3. Remove the new ink tank from its package. Pull the orange tape in the direction of the arrow to remove it completely, and remove the shrink-wrap film.

Note: Remove the orange tape completely. If the tape remains, printing may not be performed properly.

Confirm that the orange tape is completely removed from the ink tank, as shown in image 1. If the tape is similar to the sample in image 2, remove the remaining portion of the tape so that it looks like the sample shown in image 1.

(1): Correct

(2): Incorrect (where the arrow indicates)
4. Slowly twist the orange protective cap in the direction that the arrow indicates, and remove it. To avoid ink adhering to your fingers, brace the orange protective cap while removing it.

5. Insert the new ink tank to the print head by holding it at a slight angle.

Note: Confirm that the ink tanks are installed in the right order according to the labels on the print head.
6. Press down on the top of the ink tank until a click sound is made.
7. Close the front cover. The next time the printer performs printing, it will automatically start print head cleaning. The power lamp will flash while cleaning is performed. Until cleaning completes, do not perform other operations.
