Has the 'pressure release' stuck open? Can you hear air or feel it coming out of the pressure release?

We have a 6.5 GAL shallow well pump that won't pump. There is no air pressure in the tank (tested with a car air pressure gauge) Tried pumping air in with a manual pump - didn't accept any air - help!

Your expansion tank is no good.Try replacing the air tank, but if this doesn't help, it sounds like you may have burned out the pump.

Will not compress air

If while running the air pressure in the tank comes up (watch the tank pressure guage) but then leaks out after the pressure switch turns the motor off, you need to check/replace the tank check valve. If the motor runs and runs and the tank pressure never comes up or gets over 30 to 40 psi you need to check: cold start valve if it has one; piston/ring/cylinder condition; valve plate reeds. Any of these will contribut to you not getting enough pressure in the tank for the pressure switch to turn the motor off.

Air compresor Craftsman 921.153101 it spound like is one but it wont run at all. It sounds like the motor is stuck

if its belt driven ,unplug it(safety first)remove the belt and try to turn the pump by hand.if the pump turn plug it back without the belt. and try it .if the motor doesnt run.check the contacts on your pressure switch.if they are ok and try again.if not you need a new motor.if the motor ,the pressure switch contacts,and the pump are fine.put the belt back back on bleed your tank to zero with an air gun and try to run it.if it work well till it cuts of check if your bleeder release might have pressure stuck in your pump.the compressor needs to release pressure for a soft start.hope this help!

My campbell 2 gal quiet air compressor stop working. The motor runs but no air is going into the tank, why ?

valve or internal compressor motor failure crack open fitting between compressor out put and regulator if no pressure than failure in compressor if pressure regulator needs repair or replacement

Cold weather will freeze the water the compressor normally makes and this can prevent the motor from driving the compressor. Drain the tank and warm it up as needed......

Motor will not crank when air is in tank.

you are supposed to use the unloader valve to start. when air is in tank the starter motor is not only turning the motor but also trying to compress air. this very hard on the whole unit. the unloader valve should have what looks like a loose lever. lift the lever and it pulls the attached rod. after motor starts and runs put back to rest position

Why does the motor keep overloading and tripping rest breaker

many thanges can do that, bad capacitor, shorting in the motor itself. what I would do is take off the out put line to your tank and run the motor. if nothing happens than, its more likely your tank valve is bad and needs to be replace.If your unit shut es down than its more likely your motor. take it to a service center and have it check out. good luck. PS your tank valve is screwed in to the tank at the end of the input line.

The start valve gives your motor a running start before the motor begins to load as the pressure increases from an empty tank. The motor strain is more profound when there is pressure in the tank. If you plug the valve, the motor will instantly encounter a heavy load because it has to force air into a partially filled tank. This extra load without the valve will shorten the life of the capacitors and motor windings. There could be two problems with your unit that can revealed by test. What actually closes the valve is a certain volume of air produced by the compressor. If the compressor is not pumping to full efficiency or there are leaks in the discharge hose the valve will not close. Or the valve is faulty. With an empty tank, plug the valve and run compressor and test airline for leaks with soapy water. If no leaks, empty tank of air and restart compressor and take note of the amount of time it takes to fill the tanks to shut off. If it takes an unusually long time to fill, then the compressor probably has valve problems causing low air volume. If the compressor fills to shut off in a short time frame as compared to a similar model then replace the valve. Leaking valves in the head will also cause the pump and discharge tube to run very hot. Parts are available at Good luck with your repair.

Compressor wont run unless I cover the air intake where the filte

Most compressors have an in-tank check valve that prevents pressure in the tank from loading the compressor and forcing the motor into overload. The pressure switch also has an unloader that releases pressure in the system so that the motor will not strain when it recycles. When you restrict the intake, the compressor is unloaded thus the motor will continue to run. There may be a problem with the checkvalve or the motor may have a weak or failed capacitor. Some meters have a capacitor test to check if the capacitor is the problem. Reject the capacitor it it tests out of range more than ten percent. enjoy

Air compressor w/5hp motor

Assuming that the motor is factory matched to pump, it should be powerful enough to turn the pump. Most problems with motors are related to pressure switch and/or capacitor. The pressure switch could have burned contacts causing low amps to reach the motor. The capacitor should test at least 90% of rated value printed on capacitor. Some volt meters have capacitor check setting. Also this motor at 5 hp must draw lots of amps. The outlet should be rated at least 20 amps and plug the compressor directly into oulet without an extension cord. \
Secondary problem is the in-tank check valve. The check valve should hold in tank pressure without leaking back to the head of the pump. If check valve leaks, replace it with any brand of same thread size. enjoy
