Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 Digital Camera
Hi, this appears to be ready for replacing. The button, I mean. It´s only mechanic, it breaks often. Go to a service shop, or send it there and let us know how you ended up with it.
After that, enjoy your pictures :-)

Please see below for a link to the Lens Cap with String. This is an original part direct from Panasonic. Used specifically with this camera.

SOURCE: Camera won't operate
Yes, it'a a lens problem - could be a stuck focus, sand or dirt inside the lens. You have to be quite experienced to repair Panasonic cameras yourself. It isn't hard to take apart Panasonic cameras, but the lens isn't so easy - especially soldering the shutter and stabilizer cables - experience in soldering and a good soldering station etc is needed. You should give it to a local repair shop or Panasonic service center. It's a hardware problem not software.
Sorry for the bad news!

It wants you to format the card in the camera. This will erase the card so download any pictures on it first using a card reader if necessart.

Please go to this above site and download your user manual, and drivers, inside the manual the operation you describe is addressed inside. Usually though, the SD card is only used when the Camera's memory is "Full" Or there may be a function to transfer to SD card, but usually one simply need an increase in memory, and to get the photos one uses the software and downloads to a PC, or where ever and it doesn't matter where it is stored.
