Question about Washing Machines

Kenmore 80 series washer not spinning

PLease Help!!...This washer is 2 yrs old and started to spin intermittently during spin cycle. After washer completed full wash cycle, we could switch to spin cycle and it would work, but problem got progressively worse. I inspected coupler between pump and gear box by removing it. It's ok. Lid switch is fine also. I then bypassed lid switch and set to spin cycle. clutch housing turns, but basket does not. I noticed a little bit of oil splattered on inside of panels, but I do not think it's enough to be worried about. I called Sears for repair and tech told me I need a new gear box & timer. If I need a new gear box, I wouldn't think the clutch housing would spin. Also wouldn't think I need a new timer if gear box goes into spin mode.

You need the gear box not the timer.

Kenmore washing machine will not drain

Replace the timer.
This is a neutral drain machine. If there is no natural pause in the timer at the end of the rinse cycle the timer is bad.

Kenmore series 80 washer makes loud knocking noise during spin cy

Unless your front loader is set firmly on concrete and leveled to perfection, the force of a heavy wash load spinning in excess of 1000rpm will create a bit of vibration and noise.A firm footing is your best defense against to much movement.
Also due to the earlier movements during the spin cycle, the shocks that are used to dampen the spin cycle might have been broken or damaged.
If the problem persists inspite of proper levelling, please do check for the shocks or might have them replaced them for good.

Kenmore 80 series washer

Your transmission is not engaging thats why the speed changes your making will sometimes get it to work.Honestly any machine after the 10 year age mark is not worth the cost of replacing the transmission.
