Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a Roland VS 2000 multi-track digital recorder. When I try to play a song, it "gets stuck" on one area of the song, repeating a few-second-long-segment over and over again. The VGA monitor shows the song is continuing (although slower than usual). Sometimes the ssng will suddenly catch up with where it should be. Sometimes it just keeps skipping. I tried shutting it down to see if restarting would help, and the unit froze up on me. I did a "hard" restart, but the skipping problem remained, although I was able to shut down properly the second time. I had this problem one other time recently (different song) but restarting seemed to solve the problem. Any ideas what is wrong and what I can do? Thanks! pmh

    Thanks,

So what do you recommend as a solution?

So far you have only described what the problem might be.

    Thanks again.

Sounds to me like a resources problem ...either a bug that consumes your resources ..like ram memory ...or you do not have enough RAM memory to run this ...anyway ..its a streaming like problem ...or buffering ..

if you know that the ram memory its under 1G ..you have to upgrade...cause it does not support well the multi-track...( I supposed this is for recordings in professional way ..) or first to be sure try it with another computer with better specs ...I mean at least 3000mHz CPU and over 1024 M Ram ...if the pc its in this limmits already ...ya have to reinstall the operating system cause its bugged for sure ...so ..save all ya have into another partition ..and reinstall the pc and format ntfs the C partition during ...this way you will get rid of all the bugs that might cause this ...and after it will be ok ...but this is an option just in case you are sure that the computer its powerful enough to support the multi-track

I have a Roland vs 840 ex it has had a c.f. drive installed the machine seems to work perfect except when I set up and get ready to record and depress play or rec it says no disk. It has a 4gb c.f. card.I...

Try to initialise (format) it in your computer. Use an external card reader. I think you should use FAT 16 or FAT 32. But once the Roland sees the card, do an initialise there.
It could be the Roland can;t work with memory cards above 2 Gbyte, for that try to make a 1 Gbyte partition in your computer and again try if it works.

My recording studio is stuck on the project load screen

Your VS-2000 is showing symptoms of fragmentation--resulting in the unit freezing or failing to completely load. The only possible solution is formatting the hard drive. Formatting erases all data on the drive.

Note: If you have any files that you need to keep, you may contact our Roland Customer Support department (323-890-3740) to arrange a "Data Recovery" service. Our service technicians can attempt to recover any data that is in your hard drive. Customer Support is available M-F 8:30am-5:00pm Pacific time.

CAUTION!!! Formatting the hard drive erases ALL recordings and data on the drive. This includes any installed plug-ins as well. Be sure to back up all of your project data (recordings) and plug-ins to CD/DVD(s) before formatting the drive.

Unlocking the System:
1. With the VS-2000 powered off, press and hold the TRACK/STATUS button for track 4 and the FX 2 button.

2. With both buttons pressed, turn on the VS-2000's power. Continue holding the two buttons until the display has loaded completely. This can take several minutes.

3. Once the system has loaded completely, release the buttons.

Formatting the Hard Drive:
Note: The format steps below pertain to using the VS-2400's on-board LCD screen. If you're using an external VGA (video monitor), press and hold HOME and press F6 to switch to the on-board LCD.

1. Press SHIFT AND F1/PROJECT.

2. Use the CURSOR buttons to Select "IDE:0".

3. Press PAGE until "FmtDrv" is displayed above F2.

4. Press F2.

5. CURSOR to "Physical Format".

6. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial until "ON" is selected.

7. CURSOR to "Surface Scan".

8. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial until "On" is selected.

9. Press F5 (OK).

10. Press ENTER/YES twice.

I'm attempting to install a Hitachi hard disk drive model DK237A-32 removed from a Roland VS 1680 digital 16 track recorder into my PC which runs Windows vista OS. I've done a ton of research but...

The last time i used a VS-1680 was probably over 7 years ago, but if memory serves me right the only way of taking the tracks of to a pc, was by using an spdif line out to the pc and recording them that way, which if i remember right was a dog slow process as you were limited in how many tracks you could record at a time. there is an old forum i used to frequent with a guy quoting this
http://homerecording.com/bbs/user-forums-brand/roland-boss-vs-series-forum/roland-vs1680-pc-file-transfers-96373/#post906840
so that may be another way of doing it

Sorry i couldnt be any more help
