Question about Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 Digital Camera

Immage not centered and dark corners on pictures

Hi,

This is my sencond DSLR-A100. Second because the first one was faulty. It had the same problem!. I am surprised no one mentions these since this is my second DSLR-A100 and it developed exactly the same problem.

The issue is that most of the times the images are not centered. For example if I center a spot through the viewfinder, the picture will not show that spot centered but at the right or left of the center. Also one side of the picture will show dark corners (maybe because since the CCD has moved it is not sensible at that corners). Can someone explain or help? Also, I tried SONY support for the first camera and their support is very bad, I had to buy this new camera. It is sad I am having the same old problem.

If it's done it on two different bodies than it may be a lens issue(slim chance). Try another lens on your body. Sony also uses a movable ccd instead of moving optic for its image stabilization and may be a bad design and really prone to screw up. I would lean toward a super steady shot problem and the ccd is not lined up right. Personally I've not been impressed with anything sony for a long time, when it comes to DSLRs the only real choices are Nikon or Canon. They own the market and have all the experience and product lines to back it up. In recent years build quality has leaned toward Nikon. I would make sony fix it and then sell it asap before it does it again, then buy something more reliable. Just something to think about.

It's probably a malfunctioning CCD Imager, but before you send off your camera for repair, try to see if the user manual has anything in regards to centering the image:

When I take indoor pictures, the images have become progressivley darker and I have to adjust the white balance to +2 and the flash to almost plus 2 just to get a picture where it used to take great...

Make sure your battery is fully charged. If the battery is not fully charged your flash may not fire at the brightness you need to take a well exposed photo. Also, check your ISO settings. Try taking photos at a higher ISO when the subject is in a dark area. Experiment with the ISO. Good Luck!

Pictures taken are off center

I've seen this problem before and it's a serious fault: your camera's CCD will have slipped and it seems to be a fault with the design of the CCD mountings.

Contact Sony: they have been very good in the past at offering free out of warranty repairs to faulty cameras and this is definitely not something to attempt a DIY repair on.

LCD - Focus

DSLR camera was not made to be used as a point and shoot camera and you cant preview the shot before taking a picture. You are to use the eye piece to focus right. Also before taking a picture, push the exposure button just a little to let the camera focus right.

Have you thought about using the flash??? In low light you may not be able to hold the camera steady enough to take pictures without using a tripod.

If you want to change the colour ballance of the camera, look in the user manual. It is a little bit involved. I would recomend using the flash instead.
