Solution to both issues:
#1: Logon as "Administrator" as follows:
Instead of accepting the username, press the tree keys:
[Ctrl] [Alt] [Delete]
A logon screen will appear:
Username: administrator
Passrowd: <leave blank>

There you can copy to a flash drive / burn DVD / CD, etc.

#2:
If #1 fails, and/or when you get a new computer, remove the hard drive from this old computer and install it in an external drive (USB) enclosure ($15 ~ $20).
If you will sell the old computer, sell it w/o the hard drive or wipe the hard drive clean in the USB enclosure and re-install it in the old computer w/o any Operating System.

This usually happens on pirate copies of operating systems.

There are a couple of other reasosn but they can be fixed by booting into safe mode by repeatedly pressing F8 and selecting SAFE MODE as the boot option

If it is an illegal copy then even that may not be of any use to you.

You can always remove the hard drive from the system and put it in another computer to retrieve the files. Something must have corrupted your user account settings. I've noticed some systems when they were installed that people never paid any attention to the login screen during installation but you might try logging in as Admin or admin with no password. This works once in a while. If when you put the hard drive in another system it won't let you open the "Documents and Settings" directory (if it's XP) because you're not logged in as that user, you'll have to put it in a system with Windows Vista. Vista will allow you to take control of the directory and let you access this part of the drive.

How do i change admin.

Computer administrators have access to make certain changes on a computer that other users may not have.

Administrators have full freedom to install and uninstall programs, move files around and make changes to the Windows registry.

There are actually three ways that one may become the administrator on their computer; during the initial setup, change the settings in the Control Panel or by having the current administrator change the permissions on the account.

Set up an account during the initial setup of Windows on the computer.

During the setup wizard, you will be asked to set up an administrator account.
Choose the account name, user icon and password to set up the administrator account.

Step 1.
Change your account permissions if there isn't an administrator account currently setup.
During some installations Windows users were allowed to install the program without setting up an administrator account.

Click on "Start" then "Control Panel" to open the Control Panel.

Click on "Users and Accounts" or "Users Accounts and Family Safety".
Click on "User Accounts."

Click on "Add or remove user accounts" then "create a new account".

Assign the new account administrative privileges, a user name and password.
Click "OK" and close all windows. Log in under the new Administrator account.

Have the current administrator change your account privileges from "User" to "Administrator". She can do this by following the same steps described in Step 1.

Instead of creating a new account, she must click on your current account and then apply the new permissions.

If you do not currently have an account on the computer, she will need to create you one.

How to reset admin password

Reset Windows 7 admin password is not hard in fact, as long as you follow these methods to do.

Method 1: To Reset Admin Password with Administrator Account
On Win 7 logon screen, click user and "Switch user" to choose another administrator to sign into. Turn to Control Panel and navigate to User menu. Choose the account you want to reset its password, and remove its password. And then set a new password for it.

Method 2: Reset Admin Password with Password Reset Disk
You have two ways to get password reset disk. One is create it when you still have the administrator password. The other is to create it with third-party software, such as Windows 7 password genius.

Similarly, on Win 7 logon screen, after type wrong password, click link "Reset Password" to go on. Or insert password reset disk into Windows 7 computer and boot it from disk. Windows 7 Password Genius runs, at the same time, all accounts and password list for you. Choose the administrator account, and click "Reset Password" to finish Windows 7 admin password reset.

I have a Dell latitude e4310 laptop my 10 year old has somehow changed the password and locked my computer. Can you please help

If you haven't set a password for the Administrator account you could try to log in as an Administrator then change your password back. First you need to change how users log on.

1. Click Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click User Accounts
5. Click Change the way users log on or off
6. Deselect Use the Welcome screen
7. Click Apply options

Exit Control Panel. Then Restart computer, hold F8 when rebooting and choose SafeMode when prompted.

When Log on Prompt appears type in Administrator as user and leave password blank ( this is the Windows default password)

This will let you boot into Windows where you can go back to Control Panel, User Accounts and change your account password.

Then just reboot normally and enter new password.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.
