Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

3 Answers

I installed this program for my relative for SAT exams, but once the installation is complete this window pops up saying that I need "at least 3MB of virtual memory space to run this program. But when I right click My Computer> Click on Properties> Go to Advanced Tab & click on Settings under Performance> Click on another Advanced Tab & "change" my Visual Memory. I have a Min. of 1536 (MB) & I'm allowed a Max. of 3072 (MB). But before I mess with this I want to know how much I can lower my Virtual Memory & what the risks are? I'd very much appreciate any solutions you might have.

I installed from a CD & I've already read the requirements for running the program and my PC is more than capable of running this software, but I keep getting the same error message a window pops up about Director Player 5.0 and it say "This program need 3MB of free virtual memory to run" which I find quite ridiculous. I thought changing the virtual memory would help, but apparently not. Any other suggestions?

I had same problem on my new XP Home Edition . It's got 1GB of RAM and I reckon the software is just comparing the raw numbers i.e 1 is less than 3 so it doesn't think it has enough memory. I reset my Virtual Memory and the game works fine.
To fix, try this
Right-click on My Computer icon, and select Properties.
Click on the Advanced tab,
then select the Settings button within the Performance section.
In the Performance Options window, click on the Advanced tab, and then select the Change button in the Virtual Memory section.
Click the Custom size button...
Change the Initial size (MB) setting to 4000
Change the Maximum size (MB) setting to 4000
Select SET to accept the change, which will close the Virtual Memory window. Select OK to close the Performance Options window. And select OK to exit the System Properties window. Oh, and don't forget to restart your computer. I hope this helps.

I agree with the other comment. Are you downloading from the internet or from a CD? From the internet you may have to start over or I to say this ,disable some software, like anti-virus, if you run two. While it sounds good and i have had this issues,i never found changing virtual memory helped

Virtual memory is a paging file setup on your hard driveI installed this program for my relative for SAT - 2.gif. It reserves a spot on your hard drive to use in place of ram memory2.gif. You should be able to safely set it to 4096. You don't want to use too much as your computer will use what is available and it's faster to use actual ram memory than virtual memory. I'd leave the min. at 1536 and set max to 4096.
Comments: Oct 01, 2009- You're not putting computer at risk. You're just telling it how much of your hard drive to use for virtual memory. By making it too big you allow programs to use it more than you use your ram memory. Virtual memory is slower than system memory (ram). By specifying a minimum and a maximum you're just telling windows how much hard drive you want it to use. If you had more system ram memory it wouldn't ask you this question. The system uses virtual memory when it runs out of system memory. When you get done using this SAT program it would probably be beneficial to set the virtual memory back to where it was previously.

Cant uninstall my PS c6280. Have tried all 4 steps like your support side proposed Please help me Regards Olof Dedering

In order to begin uninstalling your printer, make sure that it is still plugged in so that it is recognized when you start the computer. To begin, navigate and click the "Start" button on the bottom left corner of your desktop. Once your program menu generates, click on "Control Panel." Your Control Panel will open, and you should navigate to the icon for Printers. When the window populates, it will have all printers that are installed on your computer available to click on. Once you have highlighted the printer you wish to uninstall, click on the "Delete Printer" button.

A new window will pop up asking you "Are you Sure You Want To Delete This Printer?" If you are certain you no longer want this installed on your computer, click "Yes." A new window for "Wise Install Wizard will open." This gives you the name of the printer you are going to uninstall in the middle section of the window, as well as options to "Repair" or "Cancel." If you are only having problems with your printer, it is suggested that you hit the bubble next to "Repair" and continue from here. If you indeed wish to uninstall, click the bubble next to "Uninstal"l and then hit "Next."

The window moves to the next step in the process for you. This new window asks you if you would like to uninstall all related files for this printer including saved updates. Click on "Yes," because without the printer installed, the updates for the printer are only using up space on your hard drive.

A new window will open showing the progress of your command. You will see a progress bar in Vista or files moving from one folder to another in XP. The time needed to complete the process is shown in the middle portion of the window underneath the progress bar. Depending on the speed of your processor, this can take as little as 15 seconds and as much as two minutes. Once the process is complete, a new window will open saying "Uninstall Complete." You then want to click on the "Close" button on the bottom right of this box to close it.

Any time you uninstall a program from your computer, it is recommended that you restart for the changes to take effect. Newer computers always have a pop up box that will open as soon as the uninstall is complete, alerting you for the need to restart. Click on "Restart Now."

If your computer is an older model, you may have to manually restart your system. In order to do so, navigate to and click on your "Start" button on the bottom left corner of your desktop. In Vista, click on the power button that is located at the bottom of your program menu, and then hit "Restart." Using XP, open your Start Up Menu, and navigate to your power options. Click on "Restart," and your computer will begin to shut down. Once it restarts, the changes you specified during the uninstall process will take effect, and your printer is now removed from your computer.

Windows security alert keeps popping up. antivirus software alert keeps popping up. have mcafee antivirus but it says application cannot be executed. file is infected.

Hi,
Sounds like you have a XP virus. Turn your computer on and go into "safe mode with networking". once connected to the internet go to cnet.com. Go to the download tab for windows. Then download and install "malwarebytes".
Install the program and run it, this should take out the malware. If succesful, go to your computer icon, right click and then select properties. Turn of system restore and restart your computer. This will remove all the nasties. Remember to turn on system restore after this is completed.
