I have the same problem... I know it began when another user pulled jammed paper out of the front instead of using the rear clean-out door. I just tried the unplug/replug while pressing the # and 3. It didn't work. Any other ideas to try?

  • AnnandBailey Jan 23, 2008

Oh, and mine is also making a loud clicking noise when the ink cartridges move across, a function that is normally a quiet rolling noise w/no clicking.

    Incorrect Print Cartridge(s)
The following print cartridge is not intended for use in this printer
    Cartridge on Right
    Refer to printer documentation.

My printer is an HP Officeet 5610 All-In-One. The cartridge is a HP27 which evidently also goes by the name of C8727A. I actually believed the message and went to the store to pick out the "correct" cartridge. I came home and found out now I have two HP27 cartridges and neither will make my printer happy.

1)The first thing i did was to go to the hp website and download the drivers in case mine was out of date. I see that now i have the hp solution center software downloaded and it went through the process of installing my printer.

    2) When that didn't solve it I accepted all of Vista's patches/upgrades.

Now when i go to my device drivers, the device manager says this about my printer:

Device type: IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer

    Manufacturer: Microsoft

Location: on Officejet 5600 series (DOT4USB)

On the driver tab, it says

    Driver Provider: Microsoft

    Driver Date: 6/21/2006.

    Driver Version: 6.0.6000.16386

I would have exptected to find that it was manufactured by HP.

    3) I have been looking through the advice for solving problems. I have held the # and 3 down , unplugged it, waited 20 seconds, replugged it. kept holding those buttons down until i saw the reset message. The result was no change at all.

    4) I saw another solution and tried it out. I disconnected the usb and kept it disconnected for the following process. unplugged it, waited 20-30 seconds, plugged the power back in, repeated the unplug/replug 2 more times. The result was no change at all.

    5) Just below the unplug/replug advice I saw another one on a different kind of reset so i did that. held # and 6 down, unplugged, waited 20 seconds, replugged, waited for the NVM reset or whatever message. No change. It really hates the cartridge.

    6) I have called the hp support line and they want something like $34 or $36 to fix this problem. They said they'd download a software solution to my machine. I asked him if I could just download this software myself and install it. He said no. My experience with techs is getting pat on the head and being told there is no problem at all, but they still empty my wallet. I'm hoping you can find an answer for my problem. It will use the color cartridge instead of black ink, so I guess I can just use the expensive color cartridges instead and give up on the whole black cartridge. The downside is that the color cartridge gets empty so fast when youdo that.

that "check the manual" stuff is BS. Let me give you a tip. Nothing is ever found in the manual when there's a problem, that's why I throw them out. There is a hardware problem and that's why it senses the problem with the cartridge.

I had similar problem with my J5780 printer. I was unable to use a refilled color cartridge. Printer kept giving Cartridge Errors, Replace Left Cartridge. I spent a over a day trying to figure out how to bypass this. Tried a lot of solutions given on the web for various HP printers and none of them worked. I assumed that I will ruin the printer or fix it. So I disconnected power at plug and opened the side door (on the left bottom corner). Need to lift a tab on the bottom and pry it out with a screw driver. Now you will see three ribbon cables. Gently remove the middle ribbon out of the white socket. Now, you will see the battery on the board. Mine was welded to two posts. I decided to cut one of the posts. Reconnected the ribbon in the socket. Tried to restart - same problem. Left the power cord disconnected overnight and tried again in the morning. This time I pressed # and 3 together while connecting the power. Kept # and 3 pressed almost a minute. The printer goes thru reset. Follow the display and hit "ok" as needed. IT FINALLY WORKED. So my battery is disconnected - hopefully I will not lose too much of the functionality other than memory of Fax number Redial etc. - which I don't do very often anyway. Now I can refill the cartridges and install them. Hope it helps.

  • rmehandr Aug 09, 2008

Well, I thought I have found a solution - see my earlier post. Not true. Same problem came back again this morning. So I removed the color cartridge and now will print everything in Black ink - using Gray Scale.

Ink cartridges will not align. There is no paper jam. They seem to be stuck and will not move to the left . It's as if they are stuck. I have checked for any packaging blockage, All I did was replace the ink cartridges as before.

Is there any other error messages? Like carriage jam or something? If there are no other error then try to do a partial reset on your printer, to do that follow these steps:

Turn your printer on, remove the power cable at the back of your printer while the printer is ON. PRESS AND HOLD the # key and 3 key on the keypad, plug back the power cable WITHOUT releasing those buttons, DO NOT RELEASE THE BUTTONS until you can see the WELCOME SCREEN or INPROPER SHUT DOWN PRESS OK TO CONTINUE.

If this does not resolved your issue I'll try to find some solutions from you.

Hi all,
I also had the same problem.
So I bought another HP printer.
But before throwing away the (supposed broken) HP5610 I made the last attempt: I gave it the power with the new power supply and...surprise, the printer worked perfectly!!

I hope this helps, most of all I hope you didn't throw away your HP5610...;-)

I bought the Office Depot brand of cartridges. I noticed when the printer went through the cartridge alignment procedure it always showed an error but it would print. When I put in the second EL CHEAPO Office Depot cartridge it quit printing. I went down to Office Depot and told them about my problem and their computer tech said buy genuine HP cartridges. I DID AND IT WORKS. My suggestion is don't use the off brand cartridges. I know that sucks but it cured my problem. I know it will cost more to print from now on.

Hi,

My HP Officejet 5600 series is giving me the Cartridge Error: Refer to Documentation for Troubleshooting , I tried the solution below but it still didn't work and I continue to get the same error, any idea what next to try? Thanks

Had printer cartridge error. Did all resets above with no luck. Pulled out both cartridges, then put in black one on right, and then color one. Replaced both and it was color cartridge that was giving me the error. I don't think I have used color one in over a year.
NOW it won't align properly after installing new cartridge. UGH

Throw away the printer . It is NOT going to work. I am going to HP Cupertino head quarter to dump it in from of office. They will take it from there .

Happy New Year !

SOURCE: hi my hp 5610 officejet says

I had this once and it turned out to be a stray piece of tape on one of the contact points on one of the cartridges.

My suggestion would be to get a strong flashlight and inspect both the back of the cartridge(s) and the printers cartridge location slot (copper contact points) where the cartridge gets inserted.

Also get some high quality alcohol and Q-tips and, with the power off, clean both the cartridge contacts and the printers cartridge holder contacts. Let both dry before powering up.

Other than that, I suppose it could be a bad or incorrect cartridge type or perhaps even something in the printer.

Hope this helps... good luck!
