My wharfedale 2GB will accept music files in .wma format but won't actually play the music. This is so frustrating! It also thinks each music file is an album even though on the computer the songs are grouped into folders.

I had a similar problem, amongst many when I first brought the FM6709.

I was able to fix mine by using the reset button on the back of the FM6709, and if by magic it worked !

The other frustrating problems I had were to do with being unable to view albums, and having to browse through GBs of single tracks to find the one i wanted to listen to. I should have read the instructions !, that came with it.

User Manual FM6709 page 10. If you have not got the manual:

Press "M" and select "Browser"
Press the play/pause button to confirm
Use the volume control buttons to scroll down until "albums" is highlighted
Use the go back // go forward keys to browse your available albums.

Hope this helps

This mp3 player is pathetic and is being returned and replaced with a "real" mp3 player.

should have known that it would be crap because its so cheap.

I posted one of the problems here, as mine kept in saying unknown format and file system error. But i took mine back to argos and got a replacement. This time i downloaded my songs from itunes in the mp3 format and have had no trouble whatsoever so i think it is much better to not use wma files as this is what i did first off.

With regards to the files not being in albums, i thought the same thing and thought i could only flick through songs track by track. You may have already tried this but in case you haven't, press the menu button when the songs are playing and then select File. This lists the songs in the album but pressing the menu button again should show all the folders listing the different albums and these can be flicked through.

Hope this helps. I was really fustrated with my mp3 player at first but now the replacement works perfectly and its not a bad mp3

I havnt had any probs with my wharfedale(yet). here is what i do. download music peer to peer. recommend Utorrent. its totally free. do the usual security scans etc. alot of music thru windows media needs a license to play on device. ditch it, go p2p. if you get wrong format, search 4 a good audio converter on freeware, recommend Any Audio Converter or JET7. be sure the file format is mp3 or one of the other two it can take. then just drag n drop.

This needs to be formatted by the mp3/mp4 player it self, its on menu then settings, it deletes everything and takes it back to when you first turned it on.
Also i had a problem with it wont turn on unless i plugged it into my laptop so i knew it wasnt the battery, it was the switch, something had got caught up in it so it couldn't push all the way across (piece of plastic), easily removed because the back cover just snaps off and on, hope this helps

I used a program to "clean" my system and now my DVD/CD player will not play music CDs. It reads data files all right and I can still play music files that are on my HD. How can I fix it as it is not

Go to Device Manager.

(WinXP example; Start > Right-click on My Computer > Left-click on Properties > Left-click on Hardware tab > Left-click on Device Manager)

Left-click on the + sign next to - DVD/CD_ROM drives.
Right-click on the NAME of the CD/DVD drive.

Left-click on Uninstall.

(A 'Squawk Box' will come up, "Warning you are about to uninstall this device. It is OK. Click on OK)

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen, restart your computer.

(WinXP; Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart)

When Windows fully loads, there should be a 'pop-up' out of the system tray, "Found new hardware device", and perhaps another one, "Found CD/DVD drive xxxxx"

This 'slaps Windows around', and makes it find the address to the optical drive drivers.

No? Didn't work?
Then suggest you post the motherboard manufacturer name, and model number.

Or; post the computer manufacturer name, and model number.

(Model number is on the back of the computer, next to the Windows product key; or up on the side of the computer tower.
Some older models have a swing door in the Front Panel, and once opened the model number is down in there)

Also post what Operating System you are using.
(Windows XP, and Windows 7 are two examples of an O/S)

I'll see if optical drive drivers are available, and guide you in downloading AND installing.

Post back in a Comment.

It keeps saying file error

Check the format of the music you are playing and if you have music that requires the license it will load the music but not play. It will show up as a file error.

Wharfedale DVD- 265 saying invalid disc

Check and see if there is dust or dirt or something on the lens. Dirt, grease and fingerprints will cause a DVD player to have read errors.
If it a new player, or under warranty, get it replaced. It sounds like it is failing.

Hope that helped.

Format it. I had this problem and it fixed it straight away.

Power it on,
Go to 8) Setup
Scroll to Sys Tools
Reset First, then select Format
Do a Complete format and thats it.

You will lose all your music and pictures but unfortunatelt thats the only fix for it.
