Hello? Fan problem

Hello?

I bought Sony Vaio VGN-CS110E notebook throught Circuitcity online shop from USA in Mongolia.

Currently I am studying in Japan and 2 days ago the notebook's fan started making lots of noise and something is definetely wrong. Is there way to fix it? I asked from Sony in Japan they said it costs almost 35000 yen. It is almost better is buy new one. But I do not want to get a new one. Is it possible to change the fan by myself and where and how can I get the spare fan?

Please help!

    Thanks guys,

Before proceeding further, is fan embedded on the board? Can I remove the fan and replace? I am not sure for that and do not know what to do!

I had the same fan problem. Sony has extended their warranty to 24 months for this. If you go to the sony website, they give a phone number to call and let them know that the fan is running loud and constantly. They had a technician out within a week who replaced the fan for free!

Only do this if you feel competent in doing so.

Pulling apart laptops is not for the faint of heart.

If you really must do it there are some
good guides here
.

An alternative is to get a can of compressed air used to clean computers. Put the nozzle on and spray it in every hole you can see without putting the nozzle itself inside the laptop.

Do this outside with glasses on.

Thats because there are hidden screws.
You also have to remove the hard drive and ROM drive.

Take a
peek here for more ideas of what is involved.

There are a few are tips for various things in there.

DON'T touch the CPU cooler unless you know what you are doing and have some thermal grease for CPUs to hand

Most fans can be replaced and many are a STOCK size but BEFORE you remove it make sure that you CAN get a replacement.

A lot of good computer stores can help you out here you need to know the size and depth

eg. 55x50x25 are metric dimensions as used for almost all fin sizes so a larger fan may be 100x100x25 all in millimetres

A good alternative if you are unsure at all is to remove all the easy covers around the fan area.

Take a can of compressed air for cleaning computers.

    Put on glasses

    Take it outside

Blow as much debris as possible out without actually sticking the nozzle in the laptop.

Get yourself a good 3 fan cooling pad preferably one that has its own power supply.

Never run a laptop on soft surfaces as this decreases laptop life in quite a dramatic way.

Quite often that will give good results too

In many cases you can remove the fan without removing the cooler. a lot of laptops use a stock fan that is often held in place by two or four screws. for such as those replacement is very easy disconnect unscrew and take to a shop for a suitable replacement.

Also many regular repair shops can handle this both quickly and cheaply. It is very rare indeed that I resort to the manufacturer for spares and prefer instead to use Ebay etc.

Laptops are pretty difficult to take apart. They require prying and bending but if you don't do it in the right places they can break. That's one of the parts that will be difficult to find as they prefer you to send it in for repair for an item like that and not do it yourself. Have you tried getting a can of compressed air for cleaning computers and blowing it into the vent port for the fan and cleaning out the dust and debris? This might get you a little more service time.

I have a problem with cooling fan in my laptop Sony Vaio VGN-CS110d, and I have a new fan and I would like to replace it so can you show me how to replace it??? do I need to open the whole back cover??!!!

Hi

Thank you for your query

If you are not a qualified laptop engineer, i would not recommned that you try to replace the heat sink (fan) yourslef, you will literally need to take the whole laptop apart

Please book the laptop into a reputable PC shop or laptop engineer to replace for you

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again

I've sony vaio vgn-cs110e purchased from US before 9 months, it works fine till today but today when i turn on the notebook it stats normally and also i can work normally on it but suddenly after 5 minutes...

You have to tell us the error message that it shows when it turns off. And if it is not showing any message and just die to black screen, then its a motherboard problem.

My Sony Vaio seems to kick the cooling fan on quite a bit more than normal and even seems a bit noisy for a computer fan....is this the norm???

Fan on this model may start and stop spontaneously. This is normal. Although if VAIO is overheating this would be good idea to contact Vaio tech support.
