Gps singal lost

Often, when your GPS is in a "covered" area ... e.g. inside a building, in a tunnel, under a bridge, amongst / under tall buildings, etc... when there is no open space (directly) between your GPS and the satellites, your GPS will loose its satellite signals. If you're in such locations, try to find some "open space" and wait a bit for the signals to be picked up again.
Another common reason why the GPS doesn't get signals, or doesn't get the signals quickly, is because the "latest" satellite positions (locations) have not been updated in your GPS. If/when you connect your GPS to your computer (e.g. using HOME ) and download the GPS satellite (QuickFix) location information, your GPS will have the most recent locations of the satellites in your vicinity/region. With this information, your GPS can pick up the signals more quickly ... instead of having to search/scan around to find the signals ... which can take a bit more time. While your GPS is searching for the satellite signals, it shows the "signal lost" or "no GPS signal" message.

Will not find city or locations

Hello.

Solution to the problem.

With the right piece of hardware and software, it ispossible to triangulate your location anywhere on earth using satellitenavigation. These gamin devices cansuccessfully guide you from one place to another, or they can simply use theconnection with the satellite to tell you your exact current location. Thelatter function requires you to know how to locate the GPS device using theoptions onscreen.
1 Purchase a GlobalPositioning System (satellite navigation) product. There are manymanufacturers, including TomTom, NavMan and Garmin.2 Turn on the GPS and leave itfor a minute or so as it establishes a connection between the device and thesatellite.
3 Navigate to the"Current Location" option in the "Tools" or"Settings" menu (the exact pathway to this option depends on whichGPS device you have). The satellite signal will now successfully locate yourGPS device.4 Type a ZIP code or placename once you have located your GPS device. The gamin can now successfully guide you to your finaldestinationThanks.

Why does my GPS system have a difficult time locating satellites? It says ''acquiring satellites'' for about 5 minutes. Then it says it can't locate satellites. Should it continue trying? Why does it do...

this is what my navigon says about gettting the gps to connect.

Initializing the GPS receiver
In the upper right-hand corner of the display, the GPS symbol appears. As soon as
data from at least 3 satellites is received, the symbol changes to (GPS Ready). Note: If possible, position the device with a clear line of sight to the sky to successfully
receive messages from the GPS satellites.
Note: GPS initialization requires data from at least three satellites. If GPS data is not
available, the receiver will not initialize.
Note: It can take up to 20 minutes to initialize the integrated GPS receiver for the first
time.
Note: Each time you turn on the device, GPS receiver initialization begins. When GPS
data is available, reception starts within one minute.
If the navigation device has been switched to standby for more than a week, the next initialization
can take up to 10 minutes.

Just says waiting for gps signal

Tom Tom needs comms with GPS satellites orbiting the earth.

Make sure you are outside your home so the GPS can find these signals. Initially it may take up to 5 minutes to make these connections. One the satnav knows where it is, all subsequent connections will be a lot quicker. :)

Some vehicles have windscreens with special coatings which prevent the satnav initialising with GPS satellites. If this is your problem, the only solution is to purchase an external antennae for your satnav. :(

Gps connection

It can take a long time to get a GPS fix for the first time on a phone, either when new or after repair, as the memory will have been wiped. Leave the phone somewhere with a good view of as much sky as possible, with the GPS active for half an hour, and it will download the satellite data again. Then next time it should get a fix more quickly.

If your phone has an application for assisted GPS that downloads the satellite data from the internet, try running this.

Sometimes, there can also just be bad times for getting a fix, if the satellite geometry is bad.

I am losing satelite connection frequently. Sometime for a few seconds and sometime for up to ten minutes

Hello jacke328,

In order to maintain satellite connection your GPS receiver needs a clear view of the sky. If you are operating the GPS in areas where the view of the sky is limited due to tall buildings, hills and mountains, or dense forest, your GPS is liable to lose signal from one or more satellites and this can impact the receiver's ability to determine your current location.

If you are operating the GPS inside your vehicle an external antenna may help significantly. The body of the vehicle can act as a shield, blocking the GPS's ability to receive satellite signals. This is why most manufacturers recommend installing GPS receivers on the dashboard with a clear view of the windshield as this maximizes the amount of visible sky. Installing an external antenna on the vehicle and connecting this to the GPS can help significantly, however.

Depending on the geography of where you are operating the GPS, you may have to live with an occasional loss of connectivity. With proper mounting you can minimize this, however.

Best Regards
Ken
