Question about Mozilla Firefox

1 Answer

I am very grateful for the Mozilla Spell check add-on (British) but there is one word which it does not correct when typed out incorrectly - expelined or explanied (instead of explained), there is another wrong spelling of "explained" that it does not pick up too. Can you help? I type a lot of notes and the spell check is REALLY great for everything else! Thanks. Barbara

Sorry John I really appreciate your reply but I am not a computer buff and don't understand what you mean. Can you explain in lay-man's terms please!? I want to somehow add the wrong spelling to the word "explained" so that it will highlight the incorrect spelling the next time I type out the word. How do I do this?

Persdict.dat [a text file that opens in notepad] that's located in the profile folder of your Firefox installation.
For Windows Vista - %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxx.default
For Windows XP - C:\documents and settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxx.default\persdict.dat holds the personal dictionary entries used by the spell checker that you added manually through web forms and input fields. Shut down Firefox and open the persdict.dat file using Notepad or any text editor.

Can you add the spell check feature to Facebook?

Facebook doesn't have it's own spell check. Google chrome does. Anytime you are in a text field (aka you are typing something on facebook or something ) right click in the text box and check out spell checker options.

Turkish is not included in Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1(x86 en-us) version's g-mail languages list, therefore that program ignore all Turkish words and underline in red . How can I solve this problem?

You need to add a dictionary or language pack to Firefox so it will recognize other languages. You can do this by right clicking on one of the words underlined in red and hover over the "Language" option in the menu.

When hovering over the "Language" option you should see the option "Add Dictionaries..." Click and this will take you to the Mozilla site where you can install additional languages.

Once you have added a language, if you right click and hover languages again, you will see the option to select the language you want Firefox to spell check.

Very difficult to read the question, but I think it says;
When I type correctly and spell words correctly I am getting this incorrect type. I have run norton antivus check and it says that all is well.
Have you recently updated your keyboard drivers? This is a very strange thing. Maybe someone is playing a prank on you and has installed some 3rd party software. Go into the task manager and check for any unusual processes. To test if it is your keyboards driver, bring up virual keyboard in Ease of Access menu in the Start menu, if you can type normally either get a new keyboard or update the drivers. If it is still the same you will have to get your computer checked by a prfessional.
Hope this helps

Outlook Express 6.0 Hi All I have Outlook express 6.0 in my Windows xp professional but we have not MS office that's why we are not able to enable the spell check option in my outlook express so can...

Outlook express does not have a spell check feature. You could try a different mail client such as Mozilla Thunderbird:

http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Or if you prefer to stick with Outlook Express, you could try an add-on spell checker such as TinySpell:

How do you type things and use spell cheack?

i will give you instructions

Instructions
  1. Select the text you want to spell check, or place the cursor anywhere in the text to spell check the entire document.
  2. Go to the Tools menu.
  3. Select Spelling and Grammar. The Spelling and Grammar window opens, and Word begins spell checking.
  4. View any flagged words or phrases in the upper-left window. Just above this window, you will see the reason Word has flagged this text.
  5. Check the Suggestions window in the lower-left corner of the Spelling and Grammar window for correction suggestions.
  6. Click the Change button to make the suggested correction.
  7. Click Change All if you want all instances of this error corrected within the text that you are spell checking.
  8. Enter your own change if you disagree with the suggested correction (or if there is no suggestion) by placing your cursor in the flagged text window and correcting the text as you would in any Word document.
  9. Click the Change button to implement your correction.
  10. Click Ignore if no correction is needed; click Ignore All to skip all further occurrences of this "misspelling."

Does the spell check on FIX Ya work. I click on it and does not r

jj505,

I just typed the following:

This is just a clarifikation to see if the spell check is wurking.

The spell check underlines the incorrect words with a red wavy line. When you click on the line/word, it will list other suggestions.

I might add...if you click the Spell check button again, it resets. You have to click it again.

W

PS. I can always use another Fixya if you are so inclined. :-)

Spell check

Hi,

Open MS Word and click on the Office logo in the top left hand corner, now click on word options and now click on the "Proofing" tab on the left - Now make sure your screen looks like the one below, if it doesn't put the ticks in the relevant boxes and click ok. Then restart word and type and it will correct as you type - If it doesn't then the Dictionaries are wrong, but we can sort that out.

Cheers
