I replaced my cd-rom drive with a memorex cd-rw burner. I wasnt able to hear any sounds from the cd, so I removed it & put the original back in, making no changes. Now I have no sound whatsoever, such as the windows welcome chords or any other sounds. All troubleshooting says all devices are working properly. I'm at a loss -- Thanx, Rick

A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a variation of the Compact Disc invented by Philips and Sony. CD-R is a Write Once Read Many (WORM) optical medium, though the whole disk does not have to be entirely written in the same session.
CD-R retains a high level of compatibility with standard CD readers, unlike CD-RW - which can be re-written, but is not capable of playing on many readers, and also uses more expensive media..
If you want to be able to use the disc many times, you need to buy CD-RW discs
Hi! You may click on start - computer and then click on the dvd drive where the CD- RW disc is located and then right click on it then choose format. CD - RW discs are compatible for both 32-64 bit os. Thank you for visiting FixYa.com!
Hi and thank you for using fixya.
First of all you can only delete content when you have a CD-RW unit on your pc. Also the CD that you would like to delete has to be CD-RW as well. If all of the above apply follow this instructions:
1- you will put the CD in your computer.
2- go to my computer
3- open the D: drive
4- select all content
5- press the delete on your keyboard or right click delete
Hope it works
try to put needle to small hole on front face of drive, but I recommend you to take warranty and get new drive, sometimes you buy faulty new things, that is normal, when almost every hardware is made in China...
the machine (pc or cd burner) that you are using is looking for a specific type (either cd-r / cd+r)
look on the front of the pc or cd burner to find what type it uses.
cd + r, cd + rw, cd - r, cd - rw or cd-rom. (+/-) r are for one time burning, (+/-) rw is for rewriting over and over and the rom is for games (playstation).......the + (plus) or - (minus) is very important.
I have an IDE Memorex DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner (52x32x16) that has burned well over 300 cd/dvd' sense 2004 when I bought it. In 2006 or 7, an update was given to it via memorex sight - I was told to keep a copy of the dn ld, for it can't be undone and became "IDE Memorex DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner (523216)AJ___NWK____\5&265FB54&0&000" MODEL - I got it on sale from Fry's Elec. - It seems that it was indeed a 1 way ticket - and it is time to retire the old work horse anyway - Quite happy with your products and getting me another. PS - I don't think the upgrade did any justus
