I blew the Wii out with an air blower and all was well. Apparently dust settled on the optic.

Try the following options.
1:) Soft Reset:- Press the reset button on the Wii console For 2 seconds.
2:) Hard Reset. :- Unplug The Wii Console For 5-10 Minutes. As once unplugged it resets itself.
3:) use a CD/DVD Based laser head cleaning disk, to remove any dirt/dust from the laser unit.

I have another excellent way!
1st You need a Back Up Wii Game Launcher and/or a mod chip installed. Search at Google, my Back Up launcher is WiiGator 3.
2nd At your Back Up Launcher, Insert your desired Wii game that keeps on saying "Error has occured! ", then start the Back Up Launcher quickly.
If the game is pitch black, you need a higher update...

Either flip the disc the other way and put it back in the Wii, fix any scratches on the disc, or send the Wii to Nintendo.
