My Insignia NS-WBRDVD2 will not play the HD DVD-s...why

This Blu-ray player will not read HD (high density) DVDs. The format is not the same as a blu-ray. You would need an HD DVD player. (if you can find one - they are rare.) If you are having trouble reading specific Blu-ray discs, you should check if there is a firmware update for the unit on the Insignia site. Start at and look for downloads for the NS-WBRDVD2.

The NS-WBRDVD2 reads Blu-rays, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-R, CDDA (audio CDs), CD-RW, MP3, MPEG4, JPEG. Discs burned on DVD recorders/computers must be finalized to be played on the unit.

The manual for the unit is available from Insignia here: .

I hope this helps.

Shows unkown disc when i put in a burned dvd-r but it will play a store boughten disc what disc format is compadible with yhis unit

This model DVD player can play the following disc formats:

DVD-Video (Region 1 or relevant region coded store-bought movies)

DVD-R (must be finalised on appropriate recording equipment for compatible playback)

CD-R (for jpeg/mp3 media files)

CD-RW (for audio such as mp3)

music CD (such as store-bought albums)

This player will NOT accept DVD-RW/+RW discs, or Blu-Ray.

I hope this helps you a tiny bit.

Does this player play dvd rw on it

    Hi there,

Sorry but without knowing the particular model number of your Sylvania machine I can't give you a definative answer as I can't check it's specifications. A quick look down a list general Sylvania dvd players shows that most of them are listed as being able to. The format that Sylvania players lists are dvd - r/rw there is no mention of them using the + format.

    Hope this helps,

    Recording Fall, Invalid disk

Try using Sony +R discs. or +RW's are good, any brand as long as they are +'s. For some reason alot of +R discs brands will not work, I wait and just get Sony +R or the +RW's on sale and stock up and I have no more troubles. Mine is the 05MU. The ZU is a little strange with the RW but will still record. Hope this helps.

    Dvd recorder

Hi Nickstart, start checking if the problem is related with the kind of Disk and test on different brands, disk types.
Even if a recorder is supposed to work fine on both +R, -R etc. , often you find out, that due to error correction methor, a device worksd well on one or the other type.

Your DVD supports the following DVDs -R, -RW, -RAM, all -R disks are supported both on 3'' and 5''.
On +R it just writes regular DVD +R, DVD +RW and mini DVD +R are not listed in DVD specs, therefore are not supported on writing.
When your unit records DVD +R it changes the format to DVD-V, The usint does not support DVD+RV.

I assume it works better with -R

I often get troubles with many DVD low price brands, try testing some good ones like Verbatim, TDK, Sony , Philips etc.

See also the manual here, at page 6 and 7 it also says: "Play may be impossible on some DVD-RW (DVD Video Recording format), +RW, CD-R or CD-RW discs due to the condition of the

Hope this had been helpful, test both a good brand DVD-R and a Good brand DVD+R.
If it still has problems when finalizing the CD, then it can be the usual lens problem, Or the DVD you are writing is too big in size and your player has problem on the final phase of DVD writing. If Data nearly takes all the 4.7 Gb allowed, there won't be enough space to finalize the DVD.
