Question about Toshiba Tecra A3 Notebook

1 Answer

Very..very slow ...

Using toshiba tecra notebook. using XP. almost 2 years old and was working well till a week ago...when it became really slow...the whole system seems to be slowing down or has slowed down, compared to the quick start up before. sometimes i get an error message right after the toshiba image screen flashes,,,while starting the system...just something like .."hardware error.." and advises me to restart, which i do and this message pops up again..
i do not have any cds or discks that came with the laptop, but i have a back up disk from my desktop, XP.
i tried to erase and re-install XP from the desktop disk..but that also seems to be taking hours and hours.....i have an antivirus scanner running all the time. latest and updated avast antivirus and also CCleaner with which all the temporary files are deleted and reg issues fixed (it claims to do that!) only few times i have been lucky to get to the part where windows start up screen comes..otherwise..i'm always stranded and waiting at the boot up part...please help..me!

Hey,

I think there are lot of application that load at the time of startup and ecause of which your system is slow. To clean up startup items you can use MSCONFIG. this appoints you as a boss of your computer and you can select what programs should load and the ones that should be not allowed to load.

heres how you use this utility.

Start from scratch Toshiba Tecra

You can reinstall completely by using the original discs. If you want to try to get this copy working you could always try downloading a trial of XP Manager by Yamicsoft and run through the Optimise Wizard which will prompt you to clean the correct areas.

No sound, Bad graphics, No wifi Power...

Get the correct Voltage power supply and update drivers for any hardware that is not working properly after that. You can find one online, even try ebay.
Post back and good luck.

When powering up I get 2 short beeps and one long one.

The beep code is signifying either improperly seated/ bad ram or improperly seated/ bad video card. Since you replaced the RAM I would say it would be a bad video card. Replace & reboot. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Help with a toshiba TECRA 8100

Yes, it should run WinXP. The minimum system requirements to run both Windows XP Home and Professional are 233Mhz, 64Mb RAM and 1.5GB hard drive space. I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 that still runs XP, a little slow, but has run smoothly for 5 years.

The setupdd.sys error is most likely a due to a defective hardware like RAM. Try installing only one ram if you have two to see if either one is defective; it should work for most users.
