i tried that one on another xbox of mine, it didn't fix its E74 error, but i'll try it on the xbox im working now, we'll see if it works, if not i'll reply back, so does hot glue sound ok to hold them on to the heat pads?
i herd, use a little amount of hot glue, and about 3 pennies wrapped in electrical tape, and when i screw the MoBo back in dont screw the tiny black screw that hold the MoBo to the metal case in,just the ones on the out side of the case, Correct? well, i'll check it out, and reply back, Thank you!

How do I repair the E74 error on the xbox 360

E74 - This error is caused by a cold solder joint under the GPU, (H)ANA-chip or in between. Mostly it is one of the outer solder balls on the side facing the (H)ANA chip so a shim increases the chanced of success quite a bit. Can also be a component that is missing or damaged so look for missing parts near the GPU and the (H)ANA chip. Xbox 360 Error Codes Explained and How to Fix Them

In regards to your issue with the E74 issue this is mainly stating that there is a problem with the Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) on the XBOX 360. In most cases it is because the system got over heated.

Now if your system is less than 3 years old from the date of manufacture on the back of the XBOX 360 then I would recommend that you contact Microsoft because they extended the warranty for this issue for 3 years.

Phone numbers
Toll free: (800) 4MY-XBOX
Direct dial: (425) 635-7180

Note this issue would not have anything to do with the issue you are having with the ROM drive. On the plus side if you are still covered under the E74 error warranty you will most likely get your ROM drive replaced too.

Hope this helps

My xbox 360, had the E74 error problem, with 1 red light! I fixed that, but now it starts up as a working xbox but when i put a game in it wont play it, and just says play Dvd, can u help Please!

Hello rickster32

As you have mentioned that you got a E74 error problem which you got fixed up, E74 problem is a hardware related issue so the problem you are now facing is linked to a messed up dvd rom firmware issue.

It is very much possible that post you have fixed E74 problem your dvd-rom firmware could have gone corrupt and now is not recognizing the game discs and only playing dvd's

It would be advisable to send your unit to MS support if in case it is under warranty

Going to a screen that say e74

This is a common problem lately with Xbox 360 machines. Contact Microsoft, they will be able to help you. Do note that MS has extended the warranty of all Xbox 360 machines to 3 years from date of purchase for RRoD and e74 errors. So if you bought your system less than 3 years ago, this will cost you NOTHING.

Xbox 360 e74 problem

e74 is a error in which deals with the (h)ana chip, its a very simple repair. all you need is to paste some thermal paste over the hana chip, you can pick some up from a pc store. The chip is located just under the white fan vent, it is labeled on the top of the chip.

My xbox 360 has frozen, and all it says is E74. How do I fix this?

Your machine has succumbed to the RROD RED RING OF DEATH error.

The Xbox 360 e74 is one of the many types of Xbox error codes that can affect your console at any given time. Thousands of Xbox 360 consoles worldwide are affected by these various errors, and one of the most common of them is the e74 Xbox error, which is currently affecting your console, as well as preventing you from gaming on it. Today you are going to learn what causes the Xbox e74 problem, as well as whether you can fix it yourself.

The e74 Xbox error's principal cause is overheating, due to excess heat causing damage to various components, and eventually major malfunctions in the hardware of your console. Why is this heat able to build up and cause damage that leads to the Xbox 360 e74 error? This is actually due to cramped case design and a lack of cooling devices such as fans and heat sinks. Although overheating is ususally a problem for all electronic devices, the Xbox 360 does seem to suffer particularly badly from this issue.

Although you could fix your Xbox e74 problem by sending your Xbox 360 back to Microsoft for repair, the best method you can actually employ is to fix your Xbox yourself.
Here's why-
* You will be without an Xbox 360 console for at least a couple of weeks if you send your console away for repair. Why put up with this when you can fix the Xbox 360 e74 issue yourself in a matter of hours?
* If your warranty has expired then you will have to pay to have your console repaired, and although there is a cost involved in purchasing the necessary items for Xbox repair, you will still save around $100 by carrying out the repairs yourself.

If you want to fix the Xbox e74 error yourself, then you will need to invest in a video repair guide. These come in digital download format, and can be purchased online for a reasonable price (you won't need to spend anything over $30) You really need to buy one if you want to fix your Xbox 360, as written instructions just aren't detailed enough.

To ensure that you get the best deal, purchase one that covers ALL Xbox error codes (many only offer information about the "red ring of death", so you need to carefully read the sales page to ensure that it teaches you how to fix any type of Xbox error) Look also for a money-back guarantee, free customer support and free video samples to that you can check the quality of the product.

Some have used damp towels to bring the temp down - but ultimately, the proper repair entails disassembly of the xbox - down to the processor - removing the old hard thermal paste compund, adding new thermal paste, and re-assembling.

There are MANY guides and videos you can search google for to crack open your 360 case if you are up to the challenge.

1 red light flashing

The cause of E-74 with one red light Error might be overheating of your console and for avoiding such error in future you need to put your machine at an open space. Ensure that it is placed near the window or you can also make some external arrangement for cooling of console such as cooling the machine through a pedestal fan.
But as your Xbox already have E74 with one red light Problem which can be solved by only repairing it, no other alternative.
Either you can send your Xbox to Microsoft (Please note that microsoft is no longer providing extended warranty for E74 with one red lightError) and wait for 3-4 weeks. If you don't want to wait for a month, you can also fix E74 with one red light problem with the help of this DIY Video, the guide will explain step by step approach to fix the problem. Choice is yours...........
