Question about Plumbing

1 Answer

During the bad weather and we had no electricity,i suspected my 1hp goulds pump was submerge during the flood . And when there was electricity already, i waited for it to dry before turning on the switch. However, when i turned on the switch, a sound burst as if it shorted and smoke came off. Do you think the motor was damaged or is it protected by an overload switch that even if it smoked the motor will not be affected?

It is probably shot, you can do some simple ohm readings with multi-meter to see if it is shorted to ground. hope this helps

Why wont the motor on a top load roper washer work after a flood

If the motor was submerged in water it's probably shot. They aren't made to function during and after exposure to water.

My water pump when reaches 40psi clicks on and off contineously

Pull the pump and check for blockage holding the foot valve open allowing the pressure to leak past the impellor back in to the water table. Sand --rocks are sucked up during the pump operation and will hold the ball off the seat.

What's the difference between in-line and submerged water pumps?

There are many differences between the two of them in the way they run but the main difference is the in-line water pumps run outside of water and stay dry the whole process and submerged water pumps run underwater usually in the sump of your filter.

This is the second time I have replaced the pump with no good results. This pump drains a pedicure chair. Some times it will drain sometimes not.Motor runs, with water going to inlet, but no flow out.really...

The #4E must be run submerged. The #3E may be used submerged or in-line. IMPORTANT: When

used in-line, the #3E must be installed so that the pump head (volute) is flooded before starting. That is,
the inlet of the pump must be below the level of the surface of the liquid being pumped.

I have a pump that will not pump higher that 40 psi. There seems to have plenty of water to the inlet, it is even gravity flow no suction needed. This pump is about 9 years old and recently during a flood...

The Goulds J5S pump is only rated for 40 psi. Is it possible that is the correct operating pressure? Did you get a higher reading in the past?

My Simer 2300-03 has been great except that it overheats after awhile. Too little water??

Yes. I recently used a similar pump (Flotech 1/6 hp) running for about 24 hours - but it came with this warning "don't use continuously unless submerged in at least 4 inches of water". This is because it will easily overheat, as yours has been doing. Mine worked for pumping water out of my basement (not the speediest little pump), but only because there is a sump hole in the floor where the pump could remain submerged.

The easiest way to be sure is to meter the cord and see if you have 5-10 ohms across the lines and infinite resistance on each to the ground prong. You are better served to use a high output voltage tester as compared to a small hand-held 9 volt meter for testing grounds. It is likley the motor is shot though and the unit will need to be replaced.

How to install a new water pump on a big Green machine?

I have replaced this pump before, and had the pump "seize" again. I hooked the output of the bissel to a siphon pump to pull a vacuum while i had the input hose (with the little filter) submerged in a bucket of water. After i got the pump started, I submerged both the inlet and outlet hoses (after the trigger handle) into a bucket of warm water and turned the spray switch on to circulate clear water through the whole deal
