Got the computer up and running. Put City of Heroes (mmorpg) on it, when loading displays color wonderfully! (I got giddy) but when selecting a toon (the screen is also offset, tried the screen setting it did nothing), and in game all the color is gone from almost everything (tools, chat window, nav window are all in color) and it has lines in it. Also, the mouse disappears when the game loads. Is this a set up problem on the computer itself or in game?

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Case, sit the laptop on it's side and look for the hard drive in a bay. The drive will have 2 cables going into it, one for the Power coming from the power supply and the other is the SATA Interface Cable that will come from the motherboard. SATA Cables are slim flat cables, most times they are colored red, blue or black. Remove the cables from the hard drive, remove the screws if any are holding it in a bay, sometimes there may be plastic rails that hold the drive in the bay (especially on Dell Computers, most times the rails are green or blue). Sometimes there may be a need to remove the bay to get to the drive. If so there will be a screw or two holding the bay in place.
Once removed, put your new drive in, put all the cables in place then reboot to your Operating System Disk to load windows on it. After windows is loaded check your drivers in the device manager, if any are missing, download and install them. Then start loading you application programs.
AM2+ mainboard will mean that you will be able to install AM2 and AM3 CPU's. That includes Athlon 64 X2 and Athlon 2 X2 to X4.
My advice would be to look at an Athlon 2 X2 250 3.0GHz CPU at least. It will be able to run on DDR2 or DDR3 RAM, it depends which socket you install it in. AM2+ is DDR2 and AM3 is DDR3.
Try and get an AM3 mainboard if you can it is worth it, ASUS is good. However then you may need new RAM. You may want a new Graphics card as well. Go to a computer store or use the net to look around and learn more about the AMD computer. Computer stores build special gaming computers, very good looking and great performers. It all depends on your budget.
Go to start if you can boot up. And then select run...type in chkdsk in the run window and hit enter. You computer will scan your hard drives for missing files and/or damaged files and fix it for you. Let me know if this helps.
your system might be not running its operating peformance, thus, if you windows has experienced a particular problem before, like crashing, possibly it must be re installed or some values have been changed.
please try to press f8 or delete repeatedly immediately when switching it on. if is stil has nothing to display, then you must try to run windows installation of the current you using or a different one. if still the problem persist, take you computer to a specialist who will check it up and see if the problem lies with the computer itself not the operating system.
this is usually done by Pressing fn And a corresponding numerical Key.
for example if key number 3 or 4 on your laptop, has what looks like a double screen icon. pressing fn and that key, would tell the laptop to connect to an external display.
if this does,nt work you need to setup a dual configuration screen.
this will be done in My Computer/Control Panel/Display.
