This board does not support Intel Centrino, or any Intel.
The Centrino is designed for notebooks. For a PC I would suggest a Intel Pentium D 925 Processor. If your looking to stay with Asus and the Socket 775, I can suggest this site:
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11
All Mb on the site compatible with the Skt 775.

Required Intel SL9CB Pentium, 3 GHz compatible motherboard

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_4_microprocessors#Prescott_.2890.C2.A0nm.29

Pentium 4 HT, Model 531. sSpec number SL9CB.

OK. So far I know you need a motherboard that has an LGA 775 processor socket; needs to support Intel processors that are Single-Core, and with an 800MegaHertz Front Side Bus.
(800MHz FSB)

Ram Memory? Dunno. K
Do know the rule of thumb is, that the Ram Memory typically operates at Half of the processor's FSB.
Therefore can only assume the ram memory is DDR Sdram, and operates at 400MHz. (PC-3200)

You haven't stated the motherboard chipset that was used, OR what computer manufacturer, and model number; this mobo came out of.
(MOtherBOard)

Also didn't state if you are using a graphics card, and what kind it is.
(PCI, AGP, or PCI Express)

This isn't a 'guess-ti-mate'. Exact specifications are required in order to replace the motherboard.
Otherwise you may not be able to reuse the Ram Memory, or graphics card. (IF used)

Awaiting needed information. Post back in a Comment.

Can i up grade my single core cpu pen4 550 3,4GHz to a Quad core or dual core either one would help

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

Is their a way to change the processing unit on my laptop. i have intel centrino and i was just wondering if you are able to change this

Hello Sir,

It depends whether your laptop has a removable processor or not. I f you have a removable one then you can replace it with a better one. Also if you have a centrino processor than you can only change it with a centrino one, a higher end procesor will not work. according to my knowledge most newer laptops dont come with removable processors these days.

IBM ThinkPad R40 Intel Centrino Upgrade to Intel Core 2 Duo?

According to system specs your system is not compatible with the Core 2 Duo or Centrino Core 2 Duo. To upgrade to those chips you would need to replace the motherboard with one capable of running those chips. If you decided to do that you would almost surely need new RAM as newer boards use newer technology. By the time you did this the upgrade would not be cost effective. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Centrino

Hey maria22,

The word "Centrino" is a label used by the company Intel to describe specific configurations of wireless networking hardware, motherboard components and processors in some computers. It should not have any kind of negative meaning, and may generally be viewed as a marketing tool or a description of a model line.

When computer manufacturers only use a portion of the Intel-approved Centrino-qualified components in their computers, those computer models may carry a different label such as Celeron, Pentium M or Intel Core 2 Duo.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
