Yes you can short the switch by connecting the two wires allowing the spin cycle to run. This is a safety interlock switch which will apply the brake and stop the spin cycle preventing operator bodily damage to the from pinch points of the tub. The switch is cheap and should be replaced if defective. However, you can temporarily short the switch to use the unit until you obtain the switch. Make sure you turn off the machine if you want to open the lid before the wash cycle is complete. You may have two wires and three connectors on the switch unless one terminal is cut flush to the switch housing. Note the location of the wires on the switch, C= Common Pole N/C= Normally Closed and N/O = Normally Open (you can see the designation on one side of the switch). Your switch should be connected to C and N/O which will make a connection when the lid is closed.
