Windows Defender has been running on my system for some time. It didn't detect rootkit.19154 but my antivirus program 'Defense Shield Deluxe' did but it says it is archived and can't touch it.

HI, What you do is START->Run. Then write "regedit". The registry editor will open. Press Ctrl+F (make sure you have "My Computer" highlited) and write "csrcs". The program will search for the entry and will find some entries: if you find a "csrcs" entry alone, delete it. If you find an entry "Explorer.exe csrcs.exe" modify it (right click->modify) and remove the "csrcs.exe" part. thank you for using fixya, rate my answer

What is rootkit

A rootkit is software that is malicious and conceals the presence or operation of another program so that it is difficult to be detected by traditional anti-virus / anti-malware programs. It also makes the higher privilege accounts in the computer ("admin" in Windows and in the case of unix machines - "root") available to the malicious software that permits manipulation of programs and settings that lower classes of account holders usually do not have.

As you may be able to tell, a rootkit installed on a computer is very dangerous. You must use applications that specifically identify, locate and help remove them when found. Traditional anti-virus and anti-malware programs do not do this.

If you suspect a rootkit is running on your computer, google "rootkit" and look for links to programs that will detect and remove them. Most are free. Follow the directions and you should be able to remove it without losing any data on your computer.

How do i get rid of a trojan horse virus

If you are having trouble with suspected viruses on your computer, visit:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com

Check out the forums to see what other remedies might be there. If worse comes to worst, post your own topic and someone will help you. One time, I had a terrible, very new, rootkit virus and it took 2 weeks to finally remove. But the help from BleepingComputer was exquisite.

How to det rid of win32:downloader-IPH [Trj]

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.
Entries named "WinZip" and pointing to "<$SYSDIR>\wzip32.exe".
Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\mpeg4dec0.dll".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\wzip32.exe".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Win32.Downloader.Wzip32 uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.

Rootkit

Hello, first try to find the driver from device manager(right click to my computer, properties, hardware, device manager).Once you have open the device manager press on View and check Show hidden devices, your driver(virus) is on non plug and play drivers and with right click you can unistall it.But if is a root kid and a tought one it should have another file in your system to recreate it!So clean your windows temp files and internet temporary internet files(you can with a application or just right click to your disk, properties and click disk clenup). If you still can fix it
download HijackThis and in the main menu press do a system scan and save logfile. After open your logfile and give me the results
Good luck

I can't get rid of a trojan "DNSChanger.f!rootkit". Any ideas?

download the "search and distory" from spybot.
take the computer off line while you scan for Trojan.
you need to scan the machine few time and restart it in bewteen each scan.

do a search on google for "dnsChanger*". and check the registry following the instruction.
NOTE: CARE MUST BE TAKEN WHEN VIEWING AND CHANGE THE SETTING IN THE REGISTRY.
make a backup copy of the registry if you are going to change anything at all.
