Question about Adobe Photoshop CS for PC

Photoshop automate-batch rename

Working straight from my cameras memory card I renamed a bunch of photos using the "automate-batch- rename"procedure.the photos now were displayed as icons that I have not seen before and could no longer be opened in photoshop either as thumbnails or large pictures ( message given that they were not the right kind of document). I returned to my desk top and tried to open them directly through windows as i often do and again they were unable to be opened. As the photos in question were of value to me I then used a windows option which allowed me to name a program to open the pictures. I had to work on all 73 pictures one at a time but now i can open them but only one at a time using windows fax and picture viewer.. No thumbnails are possible and they are still not recognised by photoshop. Can you tell what i may have done wrong and how i can convert these pictures back to a format that photoshop will recognise. I have used this procedure only once before and it worked OK. I am wondering if this all happened because I selected the same folder in this case the memory card -in which to save the renamed files. Hope you can help and many thanks. denise.

I think Photoshop renamed all pictures using the wrong extension. If you can open images with Windows Fax Viewer, they should work in Photoshop too. Check the extension of the photos, they should be JPEG with a .jpg extension. If not, try to rename them using the .jpg at end of the file name. I would be very surprised if Photoshop cannot recognize photos that Windows can. Tell me if this works because ther is another way but I need to know what extension it is currently.

I inserted a thumb drive with pictures on it and although they show on the frame, they do not show in the order that I numbered them in

The following advice is not specific to your model, but you have a common problem and the solution I suggest usually works for most makes and models.

Try renaming the files in the order you wish them to play as 001, 002, etc. If you do so without the leading zeroes then on some models of picture frames the filing system gets the images in the wrong order. Note that if you are uploading thousands of images then you may wish to start the numbering at 0001 instead. After renaming the files, re-upload them to the photo frame and you should find that they're OK. Depending upon your host computer's operating sytem you should be able to batch rename the files instead of laboriously renaming and saving each one individually.

The Camera will not read my memory card.

The camera likely can't recognize the filenames now that you renamed them. Example: if you camera names the files "DSCF0780", "DSCF0781", etc... and you change it to "Boating at the lake" the camera can not read the filename, therefore the file doesn't exist (as far as the camera knows)

Lost or Hidden pictures in vivicam 4090

If you are viewing the files on the memory card from the computer, try right clicking on one and click "copy". Then go to the desktop, right click and "paste" to the desktop. Rename it and then try copying and pasting the other one.

Camera RAW and PhotoShop CS3

To start, before building an action or a droplet to convert from Raw, you need at least either the RAW plugin, or the photoshop lightroom plugin, depending on the version of Photoshop. I assume you have the plugin installed on your Photoshop. See: Adobe - Adobe Photoshop CS4: Digital camera raw file support.

A better choice would be having the Nikon Capture NX , that give you the option to work on the native RAW format from Nikon.

Once you have installed a plugin to manage RAW format files you can record an action or droplet to automate the process. If youj want more automation, you set an action first, as a batch process to do action on a single file, then build a droplet on the action batch file. A droplet will give more automation, since droplets can be activated by dropping a folder of images onto that specific Droplet Process, and they will apply the batch process to all the files contained in the folder.

The way you build the batch action depends much on the version of Photoshop you are using and on the plugin used. Here an example using Adobe PS CS2 and camera Raw plugin: Raw Format Workflow with Adobe Bridge .

The action can be saved using the recorder, so that the procedure will de quite instinctive. See the tutorials below for step-by-step instructions.

The SD1000 is also known as Digital IXUS 70. If it is showing "Canon IXU DIGITAL 10", it could be because of character limit in the field.

Adding prefix

you can use an automation script in photoshop. Do a google search for it. I can't remember how to do it off hand! ALternatively, you can do a batch rename using infranview. Again, google is your friend.
