Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

I am having an issue with my bluray drive on my ps3. the system will not accept anykind of disc but will play games that were brought through the store. I am planning on opening up the case my self and seeing what's up. but does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be and if it's fixable w/o sending it to sony the system is out of warranty and I would also like to know if I were to open the system up will sony still repair it if I paid them to.

Dont... there is no need to open your ps3 at the moment....
its the update that screwed your ps3...

you arent alone with this problem, i got the exsact same problem, i even tried to clean the lens with no luck. so thats why i say dont to cleaning it, cuz it wont work.

and about now alot would say "then your lens is fried, go buy a new"
but im 10000000% sure it aint, and a cleaning wont work eather.

other fact is that i acually can load my games if im really patient and want to eject and insert the disk about a 100 times before it reads it,
and if it was fried it woulden even read the disk at all...

so just hang in there ps3 bud, and wait to they gonna release a new update that will fix it...

When I start loading a game or video the playstation sayds video or game can not be played (error 8002997F)

Hi,

This error is related to an issue reading the BluRay Disc, you might try the following:

  1. Ensure that the latest system software update is installed on your PlayStation 3 system.
  2. Check the disc for scratches and dirt.
  3. Check that the disc is compatible with your PlayStation 3 system.
  4. Make sure that this is not only happening with one specific game, if so, the disc might be the issue.
  5. Try the disc in another PS3 system if you have one available to discard the possibility of a faulty disc.
Hope this helps.

My ps3 cant play any discs at all but works fine for internet

Hi,

This is a very common problem with the PS3 and is caused by a problem with the laser on the Bluray drive which is malfunctioning and can no longer read the game disk properly.

The PS3 uses a dual laser system. This consists of either a dual refractor type lens or two entirely seperate lenses depending on which pickup is fitted to your particular system. One laser is for reading ordinary DVD disks and PS2 disks and the other for Bluray and PS3 games.

The symptoms you describe are typical of a failure of one or both of these lasers.

For more information on how to resolve the problem please view this FixYa Tip on the subject.

Ps3 plays video games, not bluray movies or dvds

I would start with a firmware update (2.60) and also a full system restore. That should fix the problem. Let me know. I'm a PS3 expert!
