2.66 ghz. is much to hot a chip for any Laptop.
The reason, I,m sure you know is the cooing factor.
With a unit that high in speed and temp., you will need a support base with a cooling fan to keep the unit at a stable temp.
I have a HP that came with a AMD Turion 1.8 ghz dual core processor and changed mine to a 2.2 ghz.
Unit runs very fast but over heating is always a problem.
The support base I picked up was about $30.00USD
and I still have to keep my eye on the temp.
Hope this has helped.
P.S. You may want to stop at your local Radio Shack and get a can of compressed air and blow out the fan a grill section. all in one word VENTELATION

Usually laptop motherboards have an instruction built in to regulate processor speed to save power. If you have all the original sony software installed, there is power feature to disable this, however, it will drain the battery when operating unplugged. This feature can be found in the lower right hand corner next to the clock on the taskbar. It be labled Sony Power Management or something similar. Open it and find the option to set processor to maximum performance.

If you are having trouble locating this, let us geeks know, always here to help!

Cleaning it out would be a great idea. Using a cooling pad would be even better!

If you have your original manual, look at page 122. If you dont have it, click here http://www.docs.sony.com/release/PCGFRV2... and go to page 122. It will explain exactly what you are experiencing.

2.66 Ghz is not an excessive speed for a laptop. Your cooling sytem in your laptop was built around this speed. I too have a HP DV6000 series with an AMD Turion TL-56 1.88Ghz that gets really hot at times, in fact AMD reports its normal operating temp is about 115 - 120 degrees fahrenheit with a max of 145 before I recieve an overheating error. I had a Toshiba Satellite Pro S205 series, late 2004 model, that had a Pentium 4 at 3.2Ghz and never felt heat whatsoever.

Needless to say, I dont really think you are having an overheating issue. That paticular processor from INTEL also comes with an error reporting code for XP. If it was overheating and had to regulate itself, you would know because an error message would appear from your BIOS and would resemble something like the Blue Screen of Death stating, to prevent damage to your hardware, windows has lowered your operating frequency or bus speed.

Your PC is only doing what the SONY software was programmed to do, which is regulate speed based on user demand. This feature can be easily turned off and then your report will show it running at 2.66 all the time. SONY and many other companies including TOSHIBA, HP, ACER, ASUS, GATEWAY, ALIENWARE, etc do this so they can label their product energy star compliant and save you battery life.

I'm not saying johnrray is wrong by any means, his advice is very wise. Im only saying im 99.99% positive your laptop is doing exactly what SONY's software is programmed to do. There are some models though, that this feature is called SPEED-STEP and has to be disabled in your BIOS and not in Windows, but that is usually found on Centrino Processors.

Hope this helps! I just dont want people to worry that their equipment is bad when it MAY not be!

Is it possible to upgrade the processor for the sony vaio pcg 81114l

most likely this cannot be done, the sockets for the processors have changed twice since then. I don't think you would see a great prefprmace change if you could. You might thim=nk about upgrading to a more powerful core I7 from that generation, but you would need to find out which mother board you have and which processors it supports. Unless you are skilled in laptop repair, I would pass on the upgrade.

Sony vaio pcg k25 does not turn on

It could be many things including the mother board, but it could also be something much more simple. When a processor overheats (big problem on alot of laptops) the laptop automatically shuts off, and sometimes does not come back on for a while. You shoudl try to unplug it, and take out the battery for a while, and try turning it on WITHOUT the battery in.

Sony vaio pcg fx301 clock speed

You'd have to go into the bios and change the CPU speed or the BUS speed. I wouldn't recommend OCing a laptop, though, as they tend to get hot enough w/o it.
