If it is the original battery, it most likely needs replacement. Portable batteries have a expected life of 300 to 500 recharge cycles (18 to 24 mos) If a new battery does not charge, then a motherboard replacement is warranted.

Need to unlock bios password on dell laptop, have service tag # and ends in 59b

Hi,

If you have loast the password, to reset the BIOS password you need to remove temporarily the CMOS battery , so to reset BIOS settings.

Some model may be using NV Ram, in that case removing the battery is not enough.

The battery is located on the lower side on the motherboard.

On many DELL models the battery can be accessed from the side of DVD slot, battery slot, or RAM slot, without disassemblying the laptop.

On some model you may need complete disassembly (eg. Dell Le series).

The battery looks like a couple of coin batteries wrapped in plastic.

Before disassemblying or removing covers, always unplug adapter and remove battery.

On Dell Inspiron 8500 the battery can be accessed from a side , after removing the primary battery.

I think Dell 8500 can be set to use NV Ram to store the password.
In this case the problem cannot be solved removing primary battery, then accessing and removing CMOS battery for few minutes.

If you still cannot reset you have two way out.

Disassemble completely and access the NVRAM microswitch, or contact Dell and get master password.

You can also try one of this standard Dell factory CMOS password:

ALFAROME
BIOSTAR
biostar
biosstar
CMOS
cmos
LKWPETER
lkwpeter
setup
SETUP
Syxz
Wodj

THE SWITCH IN THE BATTARY COPARTMENT HOT ALLOWING THE BATTERY TO CHARGE OR BE RECONGNISED THAT A BATTERY IS INSTALLED, THERE IS NO WAY THAT YOU HAVE TO BATTERIES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, THE RELAY SWITCH THAT SHUTS DOWN THE POWER FROM THE WALL INORDER TO CHARGE THE BATTERY IS THE PROBLEM, IT MAYBE SOFTWARE DRIVEN BUT I REALLY THINK IT IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE, HARDWARE AND A SWITCH THE POWER CONNECTION TO THE BATTERY CONVERT IS IN OPT OR NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I DONT HAVE THE RIGHT TERMINOLOGY, BUT SOMEONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP YOU RESOLVE THAT ISSUE THE GEEKS AT BEST BUY, OR STAPLES IF THE HAVE A TECHN ON SITE, FRYS ELECTRONIC, EGGHEAD SERVICE CENTER, EVEN WHERE YOU BOUGHT IT SHOULD HELP YOU RESOLVE THIS BIG PROBLEM.

Dell Inspiron 8500 no lights, no fan, nothing.

First remove the battery and try it. If it works without the battery, then that is the problem. My Inspiron 2650 suddenly started acting like that with the battery in but works perfectly without the battery.

Whenever you replace a battery ALWAYS let it completely charge BEFORE you try to use the computer with the battery in place.

Do the POWER, DISK ACTIVITY and/or BATTERY CHARGING light stay on?

If so try powering the computer off; unplug the power cord; remove the battery; carefully remove the RAM modules; check the connections for corrosion/dirt; them reinsert the modules; close up the case; plug the power cord in and try powering it up without the battery inserted to further eliminate the battery as the problem.

If you get NO lights or fan noise without the battery installed, you probably have a mother board problem, most likely in the power switch. With the 2650s the switch is an integral part of the motherboard (DELL calls them system boards I believe) and DELL recommends replacing the board. I guess if you can find someone brave enough to work on the board, you could fix the switch because DELL refurbishes them and if the board isn’t working anyway, then you have nothing to loose.

I hope this helps you. Good luck. The 8500s are good computers if you get enough memory in them.

Dell Inspiron 8500 doesnt continue boot up

is the crackling noise constant?
if so, your hard drive is lockup on the bootup. you have to get a new hard drive.
or you can try to reformat the hard drive, but I don't think that will help.
