It depends of what op system you want to install ...you can use the recovery CD ...and ussually it will reinstall the OS ..and the drivers ..but Im not sure if it formating the C partition ...and if you want to get rid of bugs ..this would not help you much cauze they may came back in a week or so ...but ...you can get a boot-able cd with vista os or xp ...and reinstall it clean ...:
first ..remove or back up all data you do not want to loose fromthe C partition ..( you can move them into the other partitions if you have space ..
second ..insert the disk ...and restart ..if the boot order is already set from bios to boot from cd first ..it will prompt you to press any key to boot from cd ..
after that it will search for previous installations ...and prompt ya for an action ...usually is best to choose that you dont want to recover..(press esc) and delete the C partition and reformat ..after that it will load the installation files..and restart ...after restart ..things will go at it own ...until you have to enter the product key and select the time zone ..language and ..network type ..
after finishing the actual windows installation you have to enter all drivers for the devices you have ...
in this point ..you can actually insert the recovery cd ...( if you installing the same OS as in original ) and even if it will reinstall the windows too ..at least will be on a clean install ...it will install all your drivers also ....
if you want to change from vista in xp or the other way ..and dont have the drivers ...let me know...

Place the disk in the drive starting with disk one if there are more than one disk, and reboot the computer. when prompt to press any key to boot from CD do so. and the CD should run. just follow all instructions from there. This should work as long as it is a recovery disk. if its a fresh installation of the OS, thew steps are a bit different. Of course if the computer does run the disk you may need to change the bios setting to boot from CD drive, but this may not be necessary.

Insert the cd- rebot computer -wait for prompt screen to press any key and do -then go through the step by step.
Reformatting hard drive and such. but it might be easier if you use the partition that is on the computer and reboot off that. it is much more user friendly and most likley won't cause a head ache. ALT+ F10 key on first boot screen.

When computer very very first boots up, press F2 I believe. F8 if it doesn't work. Then you will get into bios settings. You can see a section that says boot up device options. you will want to choose your cd rom as first boot up and then hard drive as second. Then save settings, put disc in pc and restart it. It will then instantly read and run disc first thing.

Is there another way to access erecovery than using ALT + F10 on an Acer Aspire 3680?

only other way is to use your recovery disks
So for this you need to change the boot process to cd/dvd rom.

the recovery disk set normally has 3 cds and 1 system cd

system cd first to activate the recovery mode
then other cds 1-3 will do a complete reinstall like a new machine

lastly you will need to put the system cd in to close the reinstall

CAUTION
this will erase all data from your c drive
and replace it with a factory default set up

I have done it plenty of times, works well.MISTERDJ

Unable to recover system

see if your system restore is in my computer c:\ drive
should be there it will probably say acer on the folder

restart while in restart press F7 then when options appear select boot with cd or cd/dvd
then enter this will start the system with the cd
if it does'nt start the win setup then restart might need to try a couple times
if setup still does'nt start then make sure the cd is the right recovery disk

Acer Aspire 3680 start up

This is generally caused by a hard drive failure. You can try to repair or reinstall the operating system with your recovery or operating system disc. If you have any issues or problems during or after the repair/reload then the hard rive has failed and will need to be replaced.

How to restore my acer aspire 3680

You might try this. If it doesn't work, you may have to purchase a recovery CD. It is supposed to come with one.

This is from the Acer website:

Re-install bundled software without CD
Acer e-recovery Management stores pre-loaded software internally for easy
driver and application re-installation.
1 Boot to Windows XP.
2 Press <Alt> + <F10> to open the Acer e-recovery Management utility.
3 Enter the password to proceed. The default password is six zeros.
4 In the Acer e-recovery Management window, select Recovery actions and
click Next.
5 In the Recovery settings window, select Reinstall applications/drivers and
click Next.
6 Select the desired driver/application and follow the instructions on screen
to re-install.
At first launch, Acer e-recovery Management prepares all the needed software
and may take few seconds to bring up the software content window.

Below is a link for Acer. You can see if it helps.

Acer Aspire 3680 Notebook

It seems like your harddrive has given up the ghost or thrown out the operating system.Power up the machine and enter the bios (Press either Del,F1,F2 to enter) once in bios check the system can see the harddrive,9 If bios can,t recognise the harddrive then it,s dead, If it can then the next step is boot options and make sure it it booting from the harddisk.
If It is then see if there is a recovery progrom in the bios that will enable a system restore,If not then change the boot option to start with a Cdrom and put in the recovery disk that was supplied with the Pc.

When going through the process with the cd you will soon find out if the harddrive is corrupt or Dead.

When using the cd if the system
