Yes All amps need to have a good ground, either to the battery or the frame of the vehicle to opperate. The circut is not complete without it. use the same size wire on the Ground as you would on the Postive battery input.

Hi I have a 2008 cobalt that the fan speed dose not work I've changed fan itself the resitor I now have it bypassed with toggle switch temporary any ideas

My first guess would be the control module, if the fan has no power and the 30 amp fuses are ok.
The blower is grounded to the body and gets power thru the HVAC control module and the body control module. There are relays and fuses involved. The high speed relay bypasses the resistor.
You may need a wiring diagram and a book to diagnose it.

Bulbs have been replaced and fuses but right turn and marker won't work.

There is a Black somewhat rectangular connector with 3 wires (Black - Yellow/Black, & Tan) at the turn signal/marker light.

Turn on the parking lights & your turn signal.

Using a test light or a multimeter (with the ground wire for both on a good ground) check to see if you have constant power to the Yellow/Black wire, and intermittent(flashing) power to the Tan wire.

If you do, then check to make sure the Black wire is grounded properly.

Today i turned on stereo system driving in my car, and i have 2 12"inch t1 Rockford in a box with kicker zx300.1 it all hooked up on my car for like weeks ago and work great, but today it stop working...

Hello charlietmn,

First off you need to turn your vehicle on, turn the stereo on. Go back and look at the amp. Do you see a power light on ? Is it green or red ?
If there is no light or a red light on, your amp is not getting power or is not grounded correctly in which you can try the following:

Check and make sure your ground cable is grounded properly. It should be attached to your vehicles frame on bare metal.

You can also check your fuses, in your amp, and in the power cable for the amp.

In my experience installing car audio, those are the two most common simple issues.

Post back after you've checked the things I mentioned. I will assist you further if you need further help. Thank you for choosing Fixya and have a great day.

I grounded out the pos+ speaker output on my amp for a split second and the 3 external fuses are good what else could it be? even though the protection light is not on nor the power light but the inside...

if you grounded the pos sp out to ground it would have sent power into the internal ic units blowing them before the fuses could react time for a new amp sorry

When I turn the car on the amp goes into protect mode

A few things can be happening, the amp has a short somewhere, the amp is defective, or it may have a connection problem, wires connected the wrong way, but it is most likely a short somewhere, trace the power wire from the battery to the amp 12V+ connector and see if there is a short or if the wire is pinched, another way to find out is to get a test light, find a power source somehwere ( 12V+ ) and place the test light tip on the amps 12V+ connecter, thats the easier way if you are too lazy to trace, lol. If the test light lights up then you have the power wire grounded and you need to find out where and correct it., Also check the amp turn on wire it may be grounded or shorted as well. If this your solution please remember to vote and rate me.

Good luck my friend.

Red light on fusion amp?

This is a rather common problem. The red light indicates it is not correctly getting power.

So trace your power wire from the battery--> check the fuse on the wire if there is one---> to your amp. If that is all in working order next move onto the ground wire.

Make sure it is sparking on the surface that you have it grounded at. If it does not spark when you touch the ground wire against that surface then you are not correctly grounded. It should be bare metal, something connected to the cars frame.

Try this and post back if you still need additional help. Thank you for choosing Fixya!

My sounds cuts off and then my green power light starts to blink

Hello delmas_o,

This sounds like you are having a problem with the ground wire. When the amp is not properly grounding the amp will loose power the light will flicker and your speakers will stop working.

Make sure the ground wire for the amp (the black wire) is grounded correctly. The end of the wire or connector should be firmly grounded under a nut for example.

Protect light comes on, no power

Hello patrick_h_mi,

You'll also need a remote turn-on source for the amp to operate. Normally, this is a blue or blue/white wire from your head unit, but for test purposes, you just need 12V to the "remote" terminal on the amp. The amp should power up without speaker inputs or speaker connections, but it is not recommended.

Hope this helps.
