You may need to replace the backup battery located behind a little door with a screw right above the AAA batteries. If that doesn't work you might want to try a full reset. Take all batteries out including the backup battery and leave them out for a few hours before reassembling. Hope this helps.

I can't get my TI-83 Plus to stop providing answers in scientific form.

Press MODE to bring up the mode screen. Highlight "NORMAL" on the first line and press ENTER. On the second line highlight either "FLOAT" or the number of digits you want to the right of the decimal point and press ENTER. Press 2ND [QUIT] to exit the mode screen.

Be aware that if the answer cannot be displayed in twelve digits or if the magnitude is less than .001 then the calculator will always display the value in scientific notation.

TI 83 plus calculator has dim screen.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

TI 83 Plus won't turn on after battery change

I was having the same problem...I found the info below on another blog and it helped me fix my calculator problem. Take out all the batteries, hold the DEL button and put the batteries back in (keep holding the DEL button until all batteries are put back in). This will restart the calculator and restore it to its default settings...but it makes it work again!

"Reflashing the OS is probably the thing to do now. I think there's some trick that throws the calc into OS receiving mode. Hold down DEL while putting the batteries in? I don't remember if that's it. Go to 1-800-TI-CARES/ti-cares@ti.com if you need specifics on getting the calc to take an OS upload given the state it's in."
