I could tell the base unit was about to go a few days ago. Have had the phone for years with intermittent problems but it has been for quite awhile now. However, the screen on the unit started to blink a bit a few days ago. Had a feeling it was about to go but the phone kept working until this morning when it suddenly dies. After reading that changeing the cord might work, I replace the unit power cord with one from my handset and the phone is working again! Thanks for the suggestion!
I have had the same phone for probably about 2 years with no issues.
Then the base (cord to wall plug) started flashing (no problems with
handsets) and i could not get a dial tone. Then for no apparent reason
it started working again for a week or two. This morning I came into
the office and it is flashing again. Now the flashing has stopped but
there is no dial tone. I just pushed the speaker phone button and it
went to flashing mode (a mode not in the users guide)
Someone mentioned fixing the pc board. Any ideas how to do that yourself?

Here is the deal with my phone issue. The adapter was defunct. You can
test that the adapter is bad by taking an adapter from one of the
cordless handset adapters. Plug it into the base and it should be fine.
Panasonic wanted to sell me an adapter for $56. I will take a look on
Ebay.
Hope that works.

Bill Wynne, THANK YOU!!!
I thought the phone was a goner, but tried your suggestion and it worked!!
I just changed the ac power adapter from the hand held to the base station and am back in business! Awesome. I love the internet for help like this.
Problem solved!! THANK YOU!! We have also gone through 3 phones (two in storage waiting to be "fixed" and dozens of batteries. I knew there was a good explanation!
Here is a funny one for ya. I just got back from a vacation and the phone was doing it's thing again and I could not remember the solution so I Googled it and found my own post... lol.

Hi folks, used 2 of the phones for several years now, great phone with a character. The fix with the handset power units is absolutely working and should be tested before one gives up.
Also, I found out that cold temperature does influence or even trigger such outages of the base. We had two and both had a problem with temperatures of below 35-38 degrees. Sounds stange but we use it in a non heated office in the south, but when it really gets cold, the base can fail. Take a heater and
keep it warm. 15min later it works again!
If that and the power supply exchange does not work look deeper for a solution!
I changed the battery and it worked fine.

I found a resultion to my phone by changing the phone cord that is connected to the wall jack. It was defective and the battery would not take a charge. Afterwords I put my old non-working battery back into the system and it worked fine.
