You might have to take your computer to a computer tech so he can probably replace/repair it... cause i don't believe you can do it because of how hard the alignment has to be...

The middle part you put in the computer is completely broken and I have to get my work off here for my last nine weeks but I cannot because the middle part is broke

The middle part is the USB and the important piece. if the outer casing came off generally doesn't mean that it will not work. Finish the work your doing maybe even create a file to save it in the computers memory. most computers have multiple USB ports put in a new one the computer will prompt you to wich USB you want to save on. Or while you have the info from the broken USB open gently slide out the old USB while a new one remains in.

good luck hope that help you.

USB port broken on old IBM Thinkpads

Marite,
Thanks for providing the pictures. You don't know how much that kind of input helps!
In looking at the pictures you've sent, the only way to repair this is to replace the connector. It can be fixed, however you need to be aware that the cost to obtain a part as old as this plus the labor involved will probably be much more than the unit is worth.

One thing that you might want to try is to buy a USB hub and plug it into the working port. A USB hub is a kind of extention cord that will give you several USB ports.

Broken black piece inside usb port

This is usually going to be a part replacement problem. the black piece is part of the connectors. and backs up or guides the connectors. you can go to your local computer parts store such as frys, or an electronics parts house. and buy the connectors unless it is one that is attached to the motherboard in the back of the computer. if this is the case and you do not have enough usb ports, then you have to get an external usb hub. usually a powered hub is best.

Broken USB Port compaq presario v5000

The hardware USB ports are identical for both versions. Only the software and hardware controller are different.
I suggest you use a temperature controlled soldering iron with a fine tip for this job.
You need to dismantle the laptop completelt to remove the motherboard from the plastic case. Take a note of where the screws come from because they may be different lengths. Don't apply excessive pressure on the plastic case else it will break, start from one side and work around each side, the plastic case has catches to hold the halves together.
Start by rmoving the hard drive, CD/DVD drive, battery etc.

The part of my pen drive that goes in the computers usb port has just broke off and was still in the computer? can i retreive my data or can it be fixed?

The possibility of fixing a USB drive isn't good. The contacts that connect the USB connectors to the drive itself are very small and very hard to solder. (they are soldered by computer from the factory). I would by more worried about the USB port on the computer that it would still work after you pull the pieces of the connector out of that port.

Good luck.

Broken usb port, Acer desktop

May be hard to find.

If you have a spare PCI slot in your motherboard, I'd buy a cheap USB card and install it.

Here's some cheap ones online:

You may also be able to get one on eBay reasonable.
