Chances are there is a small piece of thread stuck in the raceway area, you need to have a good look it might be very smakk but small enough to stop the machine

Hand wheel is hard to turn

even though the machine is fairly new, it sounds like it needs to be serviced, to see if there are any broken or damaged parts.

Thread becomes jammed in reverse

Reverse can be tricky if the machine is not timed correctly. So try this. after you've stitched forward for a while, use the hand wheel to bring the needle all the way down into the fabric and let it come part way up. Then push your back button and take your back stitches. If that works for you then you know the machine should be checked for proper timing.

Make sure the bobbin winder is in the position away from the bobbin stopper. When you fill a bobbin, you have to push the "spindle" towards the handwheel. If you do not push the "spindle" back into position (away from the handwheel), the wheel will remain locked.

I have a Singer Prelude sewing machine borrowed from a friend and the hand wheel won't go forwards manually.

Whenever I press the petal, I can hear the machine but the needle doesn't go up and down. I try to turn the hand wheel, but it won't turn counterclockwise. I have no idea what to do!

Hi - The bobbin holder (on top) has two positions. Back (toward the wheel) and forward (toward the head). Try moving the bobbin holder forward. Moving it forward will cause the motor to engage. Good Luck.

The machine has seized up - will not go forward or back. The hand wheel only turns a partial turn.

Chances are there is thread stuck in the bobbin case area, take it all out and clean it.

Can't raise bobbin thread on Singer Prelude

Make sure the needle is in the machine correctly- all the way up into the needle bar, make sure that it is threaded correctly, etc. If this all checks out ok, take the bobbin case out of the machine. There are two ears on either side of the bobbin case- turn the left one to the left and the right one to the right. Remove the silver ring, and inspect the piece of metal that the ring came off of (looks like a circle with the top cut off). You have to locate the hook which is the piece that looks like a half moon inside the big round metal piece. Locate the tip of it, turn the handwheel toward you until the needle is in the lowest position, at this point the tip of the hook should be flush with top of the left side of the cut off circle. If this is not so, your machine needs to be re-timed. If that is the case, I would need to see a picture of the bottom of the machine so that I am able to determine what needs adjusting.

Problem with singer prelude sewing machine!

Firstly make sure when you thread the machine you have the sewing foot in the up position or the thread will not sit in the tension and cause this problem. Also as it is a new machine it may have a small amount of oil from transport stopping the tension discs from separating. Try sliding the folded edge of a piece of fabric with the foot up through the tension unit it may clear the oil away.
