Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

My Whirlpool dishwasher will wash fine, but when it drains, it's a slow trickle. I've snaked the line from the sink to the washer, but I can't find a clog. If I try to blow into the drain pipe all I accomplish is almost passing out. I can't blow all the way through it. When I hit the drain button, I hear the solenoid kick on with a rattle, then just a hum. Like I said, I just get a trickle, and the basin never drains completely. It's driving me crazy! Help? Thanks.

In the bottom of the dishwasher, there is a screen. Remove it and clean it and the drain underneath it. Make sure the POWER IS OFF before you start.

Dishwasher starts program, then few mins in pause/start button flashes "insufficient water supply". Checked all hoses and all clear. Anyone? Thank you. Glen

As soon as the waser begins the wash cycle pause, open door record water level in sump.

Close door and continue cycle until machine faults and stops.

Open door, record water level in sump.

Compare before and after. If level is low that the flapper valve that allows the water to drain is stuck open and the water is draining into the sink as the unit is washing.

To confirm, if the washer drain hose is connect to the neck of the disposal or sink drain, observe the drain after restarting the wash cycle from the beginning. If water is trickling out from the dishwasher while it is washing then it is confirmed the drain door is not closed if equipped with that configuration.

All washers have a process and hardware to drain. Some have a sepperate drain pump

Hope thisd helpd?

DISHWASHER FILLING UP WIYH WATER WHEN NOT IN USE

Check to see if dishwasher drain is attached to garbage disposer. Running the disposer when the dishwasher drains and it will help keep it clean but if the disposer drain line plugs then the water can drain back into the dishwasher. If it does not connect there then you have a slow kitchen drain and this can be fixed by having a plumber snake it. Often it is plugged with grease that can be cleared with boiling hot water poured down the drain. If this is not the problem then check to see if the dishwasher drain is raised as high as it can go under the sink cabinet. Fasten it up with a strap if needed. This will create a trap to keep the water from flowing back into the dishwasher. Do this regardless of your problem. Lastly If the dishwasher does not drain and it is connected to the disposer then the problem is that the knock out plug was not removed when the disposer was installed. Remove the hose at the disposer and knock it out with a screwdriver. This plug is there so you can install disposer without tying a dishwasher in. Otherwise it would leak there. A slow drain may back up and run into the dishwasher before you see any water appear in the sink. If you raise the dishwasher line to the underside of the counter top you should see water in the sink before it begins to drain into the dishwasher. A slow drain may only show up when you are doing a lot of dishes.

Dishwasher not draining

It has a drain line that goes to a fitting on the garbage disposal or the sink drain if no disposal. It is held on with a hose clamp and can clog easily

My dishwasher isn't draining. The garbage disposal is hooked up separately.

Is sink drain line clogged?
Disconnect drain line at sink tailpiece and lower down to see if water inside dishwasher drains.
Call serviceman to clear clog in dishwasher hose, or repair dishwasher pump motor.

Whirlpool dishwasher does not drain. Wash arm operates correctly

Check the drain hose under your sink make sure its not crushed or kinked if you have a garbage disposal the hose should go up into it at a 90 degree angle if not 180 degrees into your sink drain line

When my dishwasher drains both sides of sink fill with water...then they both eventually drain back into the dishwasher.

Sounds like your sink drain trap or line is clogged. When the dishwasher drains, the sink drain can't keep up, the water backs up, then backs down the dishwasher drain line into the dishwasher. You may not notice the slow line when you run a little water into the sink, but with the amount of water coming from the dishwasher the problem is worse. You can try taking off the trap under the sink and making sure it's clear. If the problem is farther down the drain line, you can try snaking it yourself, or call a plumber. I don't recommend using Liquid Plumr or Drano because if those don't work, they leave the line full of caustic chemicals for the next person who works on it. That can be dangeerous.

Ok, don't fret too bad, help maybe just reading.

Disconnect the drain hose from the sink/garbage disposal, get a big bucket, stick hose in bucket, making sure that end of drain hose does not get lower then the bottom of dishwasher. Turn dishwasher on (to drain mode if possible or just wait for drain mode) and see if water drains like it is supposed to, if not (and drain hose is not blocked with grease) then either drain solenoid is bad, not opening drain trap all the way or your drain pump is defective.

Did you just replace the garbage disposal, common mistake when replacing disposals is failure to remove dishwasher drain plug knockout.

If further assistance is needed, give us the model number of the dishwasher so I know what model I'm working with.

Bosch dishwasher model #shu33A

your dirty water backed up into the washer (which it shouldn't do) and probably clogged something in there,..i would recommend getting it flushed out somehow, not sure how,.....next time, your washer drain hose should go up under the sink as high as possible and then back down to drain,....this settup makes it hard for drain water to go back into washer,....it's instructed in any dishwasher manual
