I have the same problem...returned home from a weeks vacation and had standing water nearly to the seal. This has been going on for 2 1/2 years as well and the rotten egg smell, and the moldy smell in the drum and towels. Service company seemed to have lost my records of them servicing it last year for same problem. I have tried everything that everyone has suggested, and none of it works. Now my floors are wet, and they don't think it is an emergency and won't be out for 3 more weeks! Crap machine. Oh ya did I mentio the dryer sucks too? Takes 90 min to dry 5 towels.

Having same type of problem with our model MAH5500B. Wife says she is experiencing water standing in tube when she goes to use it after it has been setting unused since last weeks washing had been completed.

Interested in anyones solution! Otherwise our washer and dryer pair have been SUPER, except for the major computer/motor failure which was fixed no charge as a result of a field service technical change warranty!

Does it actually refill with water or is the water still remaining from that load? i recycle my water though a hose to use on my garden if it dosent run freely and quickly enough water will still remain in my machine sometimes nearlly half a load. that makes me think it could be your drain the smell would suggest slow or sitting water which could indicate obstruction along the line somewhere.check as much length of the drain as you can my drain outside has a u shape where things can build up there is also a removable cape so at least you can stick something down there.

My maytag neptune spins water out, the tub is empty but when you turn the tub manually you can hear water sloshing and the clothes smells moldy after washing

There will always be some residual water left in the outer tub after draining. This is normal for most washers. Purchase a container of Oxy-clean and cycle the washer a few times using hot water settings with a half-cup of Oxy-clean added to each cycle. This will help remove any organic matter left behind that might be causing odors.

My Maytag Neptune front loader always retains water after the rinsing cycle is complete. This has lead to mold in the door gasket and a moldy smell. Is it normal for water to stay in the machine after the...

pump is probably clogged not allowing all water to drain out. Should never see water in the tub at the end of a cycle. About once a month you should run your washer through a cycle with hot water and bleach. Doing that should keep the moldy smell down.

Moldy smell

Possible explanation: Some water is left in the hose going up to the drainpipe b/c the pump can only pump water with water, not air... so when the last bit of water is sucked up, it 'stays' just the other side of the pump exit nozzle and keeps the drain tubefilled. This water gradually leaks thru the drain exit valve and back into the machine, sometimes siphoning standing water in the drain trap with it.

The problem is design. Not all of the water is getting out after each cycle and not all of the soap gets fully dissolved. After awhile, this mucky slime gets 1n the drain hoses, pump and filter - and they all smell musty - especially when the machine sits empty with the door closed between loads.

You need to clean the innards of the machine by doing a load without clothes on hottest setting (Whites) and depending whether the smell is bacterial (add 1 cup White Vinegar), fungal (add 1 Cup Bleach) or clogged filter (add 1cup Arm and Hammer with 1/4 cup SALT), this should do it

(Vinegar for Bacteria, Bleach for Fungus and Arm and Hammer with SALT to soften and loosen the slime)

Choose from above (not all 3 at once tho) and fill the machine with water and let run without clothes.

I would do the A&H with salt first, let cycle complete, then restart and add a cup of Vinegar, tel cycle finish then redo with 1 cup bleach

After treatment, leave the front door open after doing laundry from now on so it can thoroughly dry out and get air circulation. - Just open, not WIDE open ;-)

Cheers!

Water runs into tub but does not fill?

be sure the drain hose is not lower than the wash tub this will caust the water to run out, 2nd be sure the drain hose is not pushed to far into the house stand pipe and the there is rome for air to go inbetween the drain hose and stand pipe eather of these will cause the machine to siphon mostly on rince cycle or on the 2nd and third loads you do. last your house drain could be starting to back up fill the washer with water and listen to it drain if you hear a gurggling sound in the house pipe you may need a plumber to cleanthis out for you.

Admiral Washer smells like mildew

yes it could . If you are trying to pump the water 7 feet or more above the floor then it will at the end of the cycle get air into the drain hose causing cavatation, the result when the machines stops is the water running back down the drain hose back into the tub and that is what causes the musty smell.
Lower the drain if possible
