Question about Acomdata (HD320UFAPE5-72) (HD320UFAPE572) 320 GB Hard Drive

Files not working

My hard drive is full of movies and tv shows and has been working fine since I bought it, but just today i tried watching some videos and all the video programs I tried to use just froze up and I had to end the applications in task manager. I tried opening dozens of different video files (ones that worked before) with various programs and nothing seems to work. Windows gave me an error message saying that one of my external hard drives wasn't working properly, but that was all it said. Any suggestions? Please tell me its not broken!

Re: Files not working

Its not broken.
now we are past that part for you.
but it is not healthy.
try moving a movie file off drive and running it from another location.
if it works, then the drive is going bad.
it may be too late. but it could just be a virus or bad sector that was missed by the os when it scanned it initially.
there are some utilities in windows you can run to make minor fixes of the hard drive. don't run defrag. it is a waste of time and tires out your drive eventually. you may have precious little access time if the drive is dying. use it to get what you want off the drive first
right click on the drive file and select scan if that choice is there. if you can't fix the drive with a virus scan or other on board utitlities, you can download an application that will try to help you past this issue.
movies are best when backed up on a raid 5 server.

What files do a hitachi L32HK04U L support as it wont play my file from my usb stick

This tv will not play , wmv, avi, mov, mkv, or divx, the hitachi uses the xvid codec only, which means your video file types must be mp4, and not the h.264 mp4 either....but true mp4 video, if you have a connected usb drive full of movies, best bet is to download "youtube downloader" (free off the internet) install it to your PC, and use the convert feature to convert your movies to the ipad video mp4 setting, with the "same as original " quality ticked....and convert all your movie files to the xvid codec your tv wants, youtube downloader can convert anything, any filetype even flash. trust me this works 100% i know, i have the Tv, and i do know about codecs and scaling..and this will be your best bet guys !!! happy viewing

I have a WD 1tb external hard drive that is a few months old. I use it mostly for storing video footage of holidays, movies from friends and family or downloaded, pictures and tv shows that I have...

Try copying one episode of your tv shows to your computer's internal hard drive (lets say put it on your desktop) and see if it is the same result. By the way, what is the extension of those tv show files? are they avi, mp4 or mkv? Are the extension of the those files the same with your movie files? Normally, movie files are avi ( divx or xvid) which can be easily played by wndws media player or vlc. If it plays after copying one to your internal hard drive, then erase the one from your WD and recopy it from your internal hard drive. If that works, then just do the same on the othe tv show files. If it still the same result after copying onto your desktop, then just uninstall and reinstall vlc/divx and the codecs. Let me know if these procedures works.

Iomega 1TB HD Works on iMac but not on Windows Laptop?

as the mac has a diffreent format to a pc you cannot connect up the drive to a pc because it simply wont recodnise it. the best way is to network the 2 computers together then alow file sharing on the mac and searcc with windows through the network to find the drive. then copy them across the network to your pc. this will then reformat the files to PC files at they hit your PC

Accidentally disconnected external HD while moving files

have the files been deleted from the laptop? if not i would simply do a fresh format on the external and re migrate data. if they are then you can get software such as undelete or recover my files to restore your deleted data off of your laptop drive.

My Lacie driver is no longer acessable

you could send me it lol :)

When you say it gives you a blank window did you leave it for a while - I have to do that with my 500gb hard drive which has a lot of stuff on it and it takes a while to read what it needs to before it shows the files / folders

maybe a defrag if you can get it back up and running and also try it on a different usb port on the back of the same computer it was working on

did these movies come from licensed sources, by chance? You may be running into a simple issue of licenses not transfering from your HD/computer to the storage unit.
