Back-up hard drive no free space eror

I have a Seagate 80GB external hard drive for back. It had been working fine. I had to update unattended back-up and reset through the bounce back centre.

I deleted the old back-up files on the external hard drive to start of fresh.
Created new back-up

Now when the back scans, it comes up with an error saying the is not enough space, yet they is easily the capacity.

Should I reset the drive somehow?

Seagate Freeagent external Hard drive won't increase free space when files are deleted?

How are you deleting the files? If you're simply moving them to the trashcan/recycle bin then they're still taking space on your drive. Try emptying the trashcan/recycle bin.

External Hard Drive not Accessible after Windows Vista Update

Assuming that the external hdd is physically working fine, everything is pointing to a damaged boot sector.

You can get back most (if not all) your data stored in your external drive with the help of an application called: Pc Inspector File recovery.
Its a freeware.
Here is the link:

Simply install it on your C:\ drive, and follow the prompts.
Please let us know the outcome.

Hi Ryan,

I decided that retrieving my data was more important that the seagate warranty and i was not prepared to send the free agent overseas with the data still on it so i removed the hard drive from the freeagent case (case now stuffed) and put the hard drive in an "off the self" hard drive enclosure". All my data was there. It is still working fine. Two big lessons for me - moving files from my lap top to the external drive is not back up and external hard drives can be fragile, best not move them around like a library book. From my low tech view the circuit board on the freeagents is flawed.

279GB free space in a Seagate 320GB will not take a 5GB pst file

First of all HI :)

The main problem you have is that the file system of your hard drive is FAT32 not NTFS. You need to change it to NTFS in order to work. Here is how.

>> Copy all your data (the 50+GB you used) on to another hard drive
>> Now from My Computer
>> instead of FAT32 and
>> give your hard drive a nice full FORMAT

Hope that this Fixya Helps you :)

Best Regards
(please take some time to rate solution thanks)

Data Storage

Make sure you are storing them in both places. I have a hunch that even though you are storing them in the my documents folder it is the one on the external drive that is storing them & when you are trying to delete the computer is reading them as stored to the external & is deleting from there. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Partision prblem

This is because an 80GB hard drive only has 75GB inside it will not be exact because of the way hard drive manufacturers compute the size. 80GB by name but only 75GB in real hard drive space. much like a if you have a flash drive or a portable uSB you will notice this also.
